Belmont Stakes Pick - December 21, 2007Today we've analyzed four races from Tampa Bay Downs and Turfway Park. The Turfway race is the first on their card, with a post time of 5:30 PM EST. Today's Best Bet is #8 Urgency in Race #1 at Turfway Park. Yesterday, Fair Grounds cancelled after five races because of unsafe track conditions (heavy rain).Today's Horse Racing Picks: (# 8) R TOWN LEADER - Shortens up and goes second off a layoff for trainer Kirk Ziadie. Blinkers also come off this son of "Delaware Township." He's working well, and he should be used first and second in tris and or supers. (# 7) Southern Renegade - Drops for this, and just as importantly he moves off the inside. One of a pair from Pablo Andrade, they are both running for him for the first time, and they race uncoupled. (# 5) Timeforaharicane - Has been in the money in half of his 16 lifetime starts. Ran well in a series of $5000 maiden claimers at Hoosier Park without winning. Underneath positions is where he belongs. (# 1) Cabre - Another who has multiple loses (22)on his resume. He's "hit the board" in nine of those efforts. Has been frteshened up for the past seven weeks. (# 4) Winning Money - The second of the Andrade runners, makes his first start for his new barn. Has been well backed in several. TAMPA BAY DOWNS Race #THREE (1:25 PM Eastern) (# 6) BABO - Drops and stretches for trainer Larry Bates. Son of "Langfuhr" has improved in all three of his races to date. Doesn't face much here, and he is a legitimate win candidate. (# 1a) Diamond Steal - Started his career at Philadelphia Park sprinting on Sept. 3. Away since, he returns going a longer distance, and does so with the addition of blinkers and Lasix for trainer Gary Caple. All three of the new changes are positive moves by the conditioner. (# 5) Elanor's Groom - Has already run a pair of distance races - they came on the grass in her first two appearances. Sprinted here on Dec. 8, trainer Barbara McBride is a fine 19% on the distance increase. (# 7) Chickenqeesadilla - Stretches out off a series of three sprints including one here on Dec. 8. Improved just a tad in latest, and he may hit the board. TAMPA BAY DOWNS Race #FIVE (2:20 PM Eastern) (# 9) TAUPO - Returns from an October layoff for trainer Gerald Bennett. Good stalker should get a nice pace set up to rally into. Trainer is 19% with this length returnee. One of a pair from the trainer, and they will race uncoupled. (# 3) Sweet Sadie Girl - The "other" Bennett runner, she has plenty of speed and might be able to clear these early. Great overall record (9-5-1-2), and she's training fast for this engagement. (# 5) Seventeen Above - Very tough mare was claimed three back at Hawthorne by Jamie Ness and promptly won her next start. Had traffic troubles last out. Makes her Tampa debut today. (# 7) Ashley and I - Goes for her third in a row and does so off a mid-October layoff. Mare is 11-for-37, and has raced well off of freshenings in the past. TURFWAY PARK Race #ONE (5:30 PM Eastern) (# 8) URGENCY - Started her career in a MSW race at Churchill. Dropped in start number two by trainer Paul McGhee, she finished second in the slop at today's distance racing for a $30,000 tag. Has a good pair of works since and should break her maiden (# 5) Bluestocking - Filly makes her first run in seven weeks and also her first start for new trainer Don Grego. Filly has already run six times, showing good speed in each. Freshening may allow her to show more stamina. (# 1) Princess Ann - Chased the pace in a MSW at Mountaineer Park on Nov. 24. That was her return from a seven-week layoff. She drops into a claimer again, and has already run well at this tag on Aug. 16 at Ellis Park. Horse Racing Picks Resources:
