Horse Racing Form - December 20, 2007

Yesterday we hit another superfecta for $161.20 at the fourth race at Turfway Park. In that race, we also hit the trifecta box for $77.60

Today we'll have selections and analysis on four races from the Fair Grounds and Turfway Park. Turfway contest is a night affair.

Today's Best Bet is #2 Bucket's "n" Pans in Race #4 at The Fair Grounds.

Wednesday's Results: Calder Race #3 Top Pick Winner #1 (Break For Diamonds) Paid $5.80. Exacta Top with 2nd Pick (1-6) Paid $15.80.

Turfway Park Race #4 Trifecta (Box of top three) 6-9-2 Paid $77.60. Superfecta (6-9-2-1) Paid $161.20.

Today's Horse Racing Picks:

FAIR GROUNDS Race #TWO (2:00 PM Eastern)

(# 4) VALUE YOUR MONEY - Sharp effort in last at Delta Downs when dropped in for this tag. Has some speed and should be just off the lead in here. Can take this from close range.
(# 5) Excessive Diamonds - Best last race by far of any in here. Battled for the lead at Delta Downs for this tag, and held well to just miss. Repeat makes her plenty tough.
(# 1) Lacy Too - Beaten handily by the second pick in last, he was making his return from a two-month layoff. Race previous to that at Louisiana Downs was very sharp. If he can repeat that one, he could win this.
(# 11) Lord Frankenstein - Another that has the same last race in common with the second and third selections. Had worked swiftly prior to that comeback attempt and showed some speed. May improve significantly today.

FAIR GROUNDS Race #FOUR (2:55 PM Eastern)
(# 2) BUCKETS 'N 'PANS - Logical selection and probable favorite had a sharp return run here on Dec. 1. Finished a close-up second that day, his first run since mid-October. Patrick Mouton barn is off to a sizzling start here (11-for-45). Repeat of last makes him a likely winner.
(# 4) Hack Rein - Makes his first try over a distance of ground after four sprints, two last winter and a pair recently. Has a sharp work on Dec. 14, and he may try and steal this. Surprise package.
(# 9) Ideseeyouinhouston - Probable pacesetter probably can't do any better than he's run in his last pair. Needs to be able to finish a little better.
(# 6) My Ticket - Has improved in all three starts to date. Stalked in last, but hung a bit late. Was defeated decisively by the top pick that day, but passed the third pick down the lane.

FAIR GROUNDS Race #EIGHT (4:50 PM Eastern)
(# 2) COY CAT - Has already run well at a two-turn distance at Churchill, which gives her an edge over the others. Has some speed, and should secure the rail. Big shot at the win.
(# 3) Athena's Gift - More than capable barn (Malcolm Pierce) sends daughter of "Fusaichi Pegasus" long and on conventional dirt for the first time. Sprinted twice on Woodbine's poly surface, she may improve with the changes.
(# 8) Elle Society - Stretches out off an August layoff for Bill Mott. The work on Nov. 24 indicates that she may have improved quite a bit.
(# 1) Cactus Kitty - Closed to finish fourth in the Churchill slop sprinting in debut. Is sent long today by Bobby Barnett and draws the rail.
(# 10) Nicksappealinglady - Finished second last out, but may have been aided by an extremely fast half, :46.4. Has a shot, but may be overbet a bit.

TURFWAY PARK Race #FOUR (6:50 PM Eastern)
(# 8) ABISTRABI - Enters this on an upward swing. Scored at Mountaineer on Nov. 30 when he was placed first after a bumping incident in late stretch. Draws well and can stalk from very close range before taking command.
(# 7) Stadium - Speedy sort looks like the early leader of this field. Set a :45 pace on this course last out before tiring late.
(# 6) My Tune - Makes his first start for Marco Salazar after being with Dave Hinsley. Gelding come into this off a early October layoff.
(# 5) Katzmetic - Good speed shown in return from a mid-October vacation. Scored here at this tag on Sept. 19. Has become a better racehorse since mid-year.
