Horse Racing Line - December 19, 2008Today's Newsletter will feature a total of five races, three from the Fair Grounds and a pair from Hollywood Park. Today's Best Bet is #5 Box Office Queen in Race #1 at Hollywood Park. Thursday's Results: Hollywood Park Race #4 Ex. (3-1) $13.60.  Today's Horse Racing Picks: Top pick: #2 (GERDIN) - Last raced on the artificial surface at Presque Isle. Tainer Tom Amoss drops him into a claimer for the first time and that is a very strong move by him (40%). He's working well and has good tactical speed. The horse to beat. 2nd pick: #3 (Indian Nickel) - Sharp barn (Ronny Werner)has this lightly-raced runner in a nice spot today. Nice-looking maiden win two back, he followed that up with a fine 3rd place finish running for $30K in his first try against winners. Tough foe. 3rd pick: #8 (John's Brown Bear) - Late runner did not break sharply last out, yet rallied strongly to finish third in a good field. Contender. FAIR GROUNDS Race #5 at 3:20 PM Eastern Top pick: #10 (DIAMOND TYCOON) - Colt did not race well in England, but with the addition of lasix in his first U.S. race he went right to the lead and was caught in the last few strides, losing by a neck. Any move forward off of that one will win this. 2nd pick: #5 (He's Solid Gold) - Sharpened in a sprint last out, top Canadian trainer Malcolm Pierce will send him a route off of that prep race. Has the talent to compete here, and at a square price. 3rd pick: #1 (House of Silver) - Hasn't raced since March, but his trainer (Wally Dollase) has a track record of doing well with his returning grass specialists. Gelding has been in very steady training for the past three months, so he should be fit enough. 4th pick: #6 (Gasconade) - Another returnee, but he's only been away two-months and would appear off his past to do well with that type of break. Ran very well when last seen on the Keeneland poly. Exotics contender. HOLLYWOOD PARK Race #1 at 3:30 PM Eastern Top pick: #5 (BOX OFFICE QUEEN) - Excellent race on this surface going a route like she'll run today. Filly had trouble at the start, bid around the turn and was only beaten by two lengths. Working well since, she's the horse to beat. 2nd pick: #4 (Nan) - Raced well on the turf in New York and after coming here she has worked in fine fashion on this all-weather surface. Very dangerous. 3rd pick: #3 (Waddup G) - Had blinkers last out in her second outing and they produced the desired reault (more speed). Tired late to finish third that day and looks like the one to "reel" in. FAIR GROUNDS Race #7 at 4:15 PM Eastern Top pick: #6 (WISE RIVER) - Turf specialist ran a very good race in a stake "washed-off" the infield last out. He is the main speed and should go right to the top and never look back. 2nd pick: #2 (Gun Salute) - Latest on the dirt may have ben nothing more than a conditioning race as he hadn't raced since August. Likes the grass and is stakes placed on that surface. Big danger. 3rd pick: #1 (Faith's Magic) - Race is devoid of much speed and this hard-hitter could find himself in a good spot to win from as they hit the far turn. HOLLYWOOD PARK Race #3 at 4:30 PM Eastern Top pick: #2 (ASIAN EYES) - Mid-pack type is rounding around to her best race and some of her best efforts have been on this course. Big rider switch to the leading man here, Rafael Bejarano, who does good things when teamed up with this trainer (Pete Miller) 26%. 2nd pick: #5 (Hard Woman) - Dangerous runner finished only a length behind the top choice last out and in her previous run she defeated that rival. Versatile as to style, she's a strong win contender. 3rd pick: #3 (Found in Dark) - Filly can race on or just off the top and has either finished first or second in six of eight career starts. She should be in this from start-to-finish. 4th pick: #4 (Dana's Beau) - No speed runner should receive a lively pace to rally into, but she'll need a "turnaround" off her recent races to get more than a minor award.
