Free Horse Racing Handicapping - December 17, 2008With Aqueduct closed until December 26th, we'll still provide five races daily, with most if not all being past 3:00 pm EST. Today we have three from Hollywood Park and a pair from Tampa Bay Downs. The Best Bet is #7 Right Flanker in Race 37 at Tampa Bay Downs. ![]() Today's Horse Racing Picks: Top pick: #7 (RIGHT FLANKER) - Freshened-up for this meet by a trainer (Gerald Bennett) who ALWAYS does well at this meet. Drops for this return race and stalker has run fine off of layoffs in the past. Lots of speed signed up and that makes for a great trip for someone who "shadows" the pace. The choice for the win. 2nd pick: #1 (Fort Knox) - Consistent veteran has either won or finished in the money in 7 of his last 9 starts. Freshened-up for the past two months, he's been training fast and steadily for his return. The main speed, he must be caught. 3rd pick: #4 (Could Be You) - Late finisher fits at this tag and has raced well all season at Suffolk Downs. Another who's been training fast for his return, he'll need some pace help up-front. HOLLYWOOD PARK Race #1 at 3:30 PM Eastern Top pick: #5 (ONE VOTE) - He looms the lone speed in this small field and can out-foot them early and win this wire-to-wire. He's had to fight all the way in his first pair and paid the price late. It looks like his day. 2nd pick: #6 (Cold Ruler) - Debut runner by "Empire Maker" will probably not show much speed as he's bred to go "longer". He has a steady work tab with most on this surface. He could pick off enough late to "hit the board". 3rd pick: #1 (Doggie Bear) - Takes a big drop in class and has racing experience in his corner. Blinkers are removed by trainer Doug O'Neill and he looks like a logical exacta candidate. HOLLYWOD PARK Race #3 at 4:30 PM Eastern Top pick: #8 (THERE GOES GEE GEE) - Cuts-back in distance and drops back in with maiden-claimers after a failed try going long against MSW foes. Has positional speed and gets a big rider up-grade to Bejarano. The choice for the maiden score. 2nd pick: #4 (Songinmyheart) - Drops after showing "high" debut speed against better. Can see her clearing these early, and if that's the case, she could hang on a long time. 3rd pick: #2 (It's Partytime) - Nice improvement last out in her 2nd lifetime start as she finished a strong 2nd at this level. Has enough speed to stay close and she still has room for improvement. 4th pick: #6 (Leg's Eleven) - Makes her career debut and she's been working steadily for her un-veiling. She'll need to be sharp first out against this group. TAMPA BAY DOWNS Race #9 at 4:30 PM Eastern Top pick: #9 (WINK ANDA BLESSING) - Colt tired in his debut at Hawthorne in a race that has produced several next-out winners. Runs for the Frank Calabrese/Rick Slomkowski combo and they had a solid meet here last season. Goes much better today. 2nd pick: #3 (Atsatsuki) - Returns from a 4 month layoff and with a new trainer (Kate O'Connell). He finished 2nd at Arlington in his last before the layoff. Training well locally and if ready he's a win threat. 3rd pick: #2 (Mid Court) - Broke poorly and raced wide in his debut at Keeneland against 40K foes. Drops and will get blinkers on from veteran trainer Forest Kaelin. 4th pick: #4 (Rush to Dinner) - Good barn (Miguel Feliciano) usually has it's share of success at this meet. Ohio-bred comes here in shape after just missing in his 2nd start against state-breds. Well-backed in both outings, he's an exotics contender. HOLLYWOOD PARK Race #5 at 5:35 PM Eastern Top pick: #3 (DEVOTED MAGIC) - Talented runner has proven to be successful on dirt, turf, and "poly". Claimed last out by one of the best, Jerry Hollendorfer gelding is coming back quickly for this and for a trainer that wins at a 29% rate with his fresh claims. The pick. 2nd pick: #2 (Ginobili) - Consistent speed/stalker runs hard every time and has finished "in the money" in 8 of his last 9 starts. The main danger. 3rd pick: #1 (Swift Demand) - He's had 9 tries at this level without picking up the win, but he has many fine tries on the main-track and is bred to handle the turf in this, his first race on the infield. 4th pick: #7 (Tiz Bodacious) - Nice win last out and he's another who'll be trying the turf-course for thr first time. Fits if he takes to the new footing. Horse Racing Picks Resources:
