Today with Calder closed, we have three races from Philadelphia Park and a pair from Turf Paradise. Today's Best Bet is #2 Toast to Dusty in Race #9 at Philadelphia Park. Monday's Results: Calder Race #6 Ex. (box 8-2) $31.40. ![]() Today's Horse Racing Picks: Top pick: #1 (IN ORBIT) - Claimed last out by the Eberd Estrada barn and they bring him back quickly (10 days) and stretch him out in distance. Well-bred and he has both speed and stalking ability. Can pull off an upset here. 2nd pick: #4 (Doesn't Lie) - Drops into a claimer for the first time and it comes off a seven-week freshening. He's been racing and finishing evenly in starter-allowances and the class relief should have him in this. 3rd pick: #5 (Couth) - Fits at this tag and distance and if there's some pace to rally into he would be a big late threat. 4th pick: #9 (Fuzzy Buzz) - One of a pair from trainer Jayne vaders and they will race uncoupled. Very sharp in his form of late and just missed in his last running for $7500. Has both speed and a rating gear. TURF PARADISE Race #2 at 3:00 PM Eastern Top pick: #3 (LIL LEA) - Fast filly will be making her first appearance on the grass. She's handled both "poly" and dirt in her career and she'll be making her first start for trainer Bart Hone, an 18% winning move. Think she's the speed of the speed. 2nd pick: #8 (True Deception) - Tired in her only grass race, but it was a distance event and this filly is clearly a sprinter. Finished second last out on the dirt, her first race in 6 1/2 months. Working very fast for this attempt. 3rd pick: #4 (Sophia Forus) - Price-play in the exotics, she's sent to the turf by a good trainer (Eric Kruljac). Bred for the grass, she could improve enough to be an exotics factor at big odds. 4th pick: #6 (Cassie D) - As a daughter of "Indian Charlie" she should find the switch to grass racing a natural. She's shown some talent on the dirt and should be viewed as a player here. PHILADELPHIA PARK Race #8 at 3:20 PM Eastern Top pick: #2 (BIT O LIGHTENING) - Broke his maiden for "Team Lake" on November 30, fresh off a seven-week break. Stalked and pounced that day and comes back quickly for his first against winners. Can win right back. 2nd pick: #9 (Now or Never) - Swamped a field in the swamp (the Meadowlands) on November 12, by scampering clear and increasing his margin at every call. Good barn (Alan Goldberg) and colt cost $110,000 as a yearling. He runs him back where he can't lose him. 3rd pick: #7 (Sergeant Keith) - Nice maiden win a week ago, stalking early and pulling clear when ready. Race was by far his best ever and it's a good sign that he comes-back quickly for this. 4th pick: #4 (Smitten Citi) - Trainer (Juan Guerrero) continues to do good work with all of his stock. He claimed this runner out of his debut and he showed steady improvement in his starts, breaking his maiden on October 7. Freshened-up since, he should have a fast pace to run. PHILADELPHIA PARK Race #9 at 3:50 PM Eastern Top pick: #2 (TOAST TO DUSTY) - Claimed out of a pace-setting third place finish on November 10, by the Scott Lake barn. On the shelf since, this speedy colt has a fast work on Dec. 9, and the trainer specializes in these types of layoffs. 2nd pick: #4 (Alyjen's Speed) - Dropped in price last out, he went right to the front on a sloppy track and was never threatened as he cleared the 2l condition. Lightly raced and improving for a very good barn (Bob Seeger). 3rd pick: #8 (Trippi Dance) - Fileds strongest and most consistent closer is cutting back from nine to six furlongs. Raced evenly in the longer race and that should set him up well for an "off the pace" try in this sprint. TURF PARADISE Race #6 at 4:50 PM Eastern Top pick: #1 (ENTRY OF ATTLEBORO and RADFORD) - We'll take either half of this entry as our top selection. They have different trainers, but common ownership resulting in their being coupled. They also have different riders so I believe both will go. If one is scratched, the lone participant would be our top pick. 2nd pick: #5 (One Call) - Returns off a seven-month layoff for the sharp Keith Bennett barn. Working o.k. and the trainer is a strong 25% with his returnees. 3rd pick: #6 (Rosie's Big Sky) - Raced in an allowance in his mid-November debut and showed high speed that day. In with maidens here, he has lasix added and a five-furlong "bullet" drill on Dec. 1. 4th pick: #2 (Tribal One) - Fields most experienced runner has raced at a variety of levels and he has some closing ability in a race that should have a very fast pace. ![]() Horse Racing Picks Resources:
