Horse Racing Betting Pick - December 15, 2007Today we have a total of fives races, three from Aqueduct and one each from the Fair Grounds and Turfway Park. Today's Best Bet is #5 Self Made Man in Race #11 at Turfway Park. Friday's Results: Fair Grounds Race #1 Top Pick Winner #7 (Hawaii Calls) Paid $5. Calder Race #10 Top Pick Winner #1 (Marina Ballerina) Paid $3.20. Fair Grounds Race #8 Top Pick Winner #9 (The Darp) Paid $3.60. Exacta Top with 2nd (9-3) Paid $18.60. Today's Horse Racing Picks: (# 6) SPEEDBALL HOWIE - Speed has been king here over the past two weeks when the track has been fast. This colt was beaten to the top in last by a runner on the rail. Stayed close and tried to close the gap, but just couldn't make any headway. May be his turn to play catch-me-if-you-can. (# 3) Trick Meeting - Makes his second start for Mike Hushion after a troubled trip in last. Colt is capable against these and can finish strongly. Serious challenger to the top pick. (# 5) Dodgem - Fair effort in first outing since late May. Ran well over this surface last winter and may move forward off the return race. (# 4) Huge City - Has his problems as he continually need to go in for freshenings. May give the top pick an early tussle. AQUEDUCT Race #TWO (12:50 PM Eastern) (# 7) SARATOGA RUSSELL - Looks like a two horse race on view, with this runner and the rail horse. He defeated the second pick last out with a big post advantage, today those positions are reversed. He still beat him by nine lengths. Make sure you reverse the exactas. (# 1) Bang Bang Bang - Big speed shown from a marooned post (11) in his initial run. Bet heavily, he showed good speed chasing, but tired a bit late. Big post position switch as he moves to the rail. Will try and out-break them. Very close in figures to the top pick with the post switch factored in. (# 2) More Than Coolin - Makes his first start for trainer Bruce Levine after being with fine mid-west conditioner Greg Foley. Son of "More Than Ready" finished second in the Churchill mud last out in a strong effort. Levine is a great 29% with runners new to his barn. FAIR GROUNDS Race #TWO (2:00 PM Eastern) (# 5) THANK'S MR. G - Has been given a freshening by the Cody Autry barn, something they don't do very often. Veteran loves it here and had a pair of big wins here last season. Trainer has been on fire since this meet opened. (# 6) Louderfasterharder - Moves up in class off a recent claim by trainer Paul Gregoire. New conditioner does well with limited stock and chances. (# 1) Home Minister - Claimed last out off an even run where he finished fifth. Had good position but couldn't offer a winning bid. Comes back quickly for the new barn and that's always a positive sign. AQUEDUCT Race #NINE (4:05 PM Eastern) (# 8) ICY HEART - Goes third off a late winter layoff. Speed shown in both return runs, and has stayed on well showing some fighting spirit. Good shot at the win. (# 6) Ferdi's Prince - Pulled up in last effort - a turf affair at Aqueduct. Dirt tries at this tag are fine, and he's training well. Violette reaches out to his main man, Eibar Coa Today. (# 9) Front Money - Eased in last, he comes back quickly, so it may have been an equipment problem. Drops into a claimer for the first time, and he has proven competitive in several. (# 11) Cannon Station - Goes second off a year layoff for trainer John Destefano. Gelding started his career with Jimmy Jerkens, and showed speed in all his races. Runner has also been strongly supported at the windows in his four races. Has had trouble at the start in every one. TURFWAY PARK Race #ELEVEN (5:45 PM Eastern) (# 5) SELF MADE MAN - Gelding has made tremendous strides as the season has gone along. Bred and owned by Ken and Sarah Ramsey, he has won his only three starts on artificial surfaces with ridiculous ease. Continues his great AM work, and can take these from on or just off the top. (# 7) Slew's Tizzy - Capable colt has been overmatched in many of his starts, as he's just not that talented. This group, which consists of many performers who are better on grass, should me more to his liking. (# 6) Catman Running - He's two-for-two on this course, including an impressive win in the Battaglia Memorial here last March. His pair of return runs should have him on edge for a big effort third off the bench. (# 2) Sidcup - Deep closer has a good record on artificial surfaces (6-3-1-0).
