Horse Racing Handicapper - December 14, 2008We have five races on today's Racing Newsletter, three from Aqueduct and two from Hollywood Park. The Best Bet is #2 By the Light in Race #7 at Aqueduct. Saturday's Results: Fair Grounds Race #7 Best Bet #1 (Superior Storm) $4.60. ![]() Today's Horse Racing Picks: Top pick: #6 (NIKA) - Stretches-out off an even sprint try on November 16. Blinkers will go on for trainer Kiaran McLaughlin and they may try and win this early. The sprint-to-route move is a strong one for the barn (24%). 2nd pick: #2 (Driven By Passion) - Excellent debut run saw this filly break a bit awkardly but race fine once she settled down to finish a close up third to a nice-looking winner. Goes long off that initial outing and she's a win candidate. 3rd pick: #4 (Reforestation) - This daughter of "Forestry" has finished second in her last pair, both on the main track here at a flat mile. Working well since her latest and she's a serious threat. 4th pick: #3 (Miss World) - I don't believe she's as talented as the top trio, but her latest was good and she'll also be attempting a two-turn distance for the first time. AQUEDUCT Race #7 at 3:15 PM Eastern Top pick: #2 (BY THE LIGHT) - Versatile and talented state-bred is (10-7-2-0) with the only non-money finish coming in a Grade 2 stakes at Philadelphia Park where she had a poor break. Takes this race from just off the lead. 2nd pick: #7 (Access Fee) - Maryland shippers only loss came when she finished second in a turf sprint at Philly Park after breaking slowly. She's three-for-three on the dirt and has shown "blazing" speed each time. Tough if she clears. 3rd pick: #3 (Distorted Passion) - Makes her way here from Kenticky where in her last start she picked up win number two. Training well since she came east and she's a threat from mid-pack as she shortens-up a furlong. 4th pick: #4 (Holistic) - She's (5-2-2-0) with all her good races coming in sprints with the lone poor outing coming in a two-turn race at Oaklawn last winter. Threat at square odds. AQUEDUCT Race #8 (THE LADIES H.) at 3:40 PM Eastern Top pick: #4 (SWEET GOODBYE) - Maryland shipper has won her last five by "daylight" margins including a pair of stakes at Laurel. Can go on the front-end or rate and that's a nice option to have. Working in spectacular fashion at her home track of Bowie, she's the choice to pick up the win. 2nd pick: #2 (Rap Tale ) - Improving for a good barn (Bruce Brown), she won her last at Philly by being up and on the pace and proving best late. Would expect her to test the top pick early in this contest to see what she's made out of. Contender at a square price. 3rd pick: #8 (Runway Rosie) - Sent to the sidelines in the fall to await this "Inner-dirt" meet, she had a fine time here last winter (6-3-2-0). Training well for her comeback run, I would expect trainer Gary Contessa to have her somewhere near the front and to hope that the top pick doesn't fire. HOLLYWOOD PARK Race #6 at 6:05 PM Eastern Top pick: #9 (BLAME THE WINE) - Good speed on view last our for this improving runner. Won her latest on this surface and goes third off a layoff today. Makes it two in a row. 2nd pick: #5 (Glitterman's Fancy) - Drops in half after a poor race in her latest here on November 8. Previous trio were strong and she brings a versatile running style to the contest. Threat on her best. 3rd pick: #3 (Talktoomuch) - No speed runner ran well last out in her first attempt on this surface. She woul love a fast/contested pace to rally into. Late threat. 4th pick: #7 (Ella Enchanted) - She finished a strong second here on Nov. 1 and followed that up with a "no-chance" effort after an "awful" beginning on Nov. 23. Chance at a square price. HOLLYWOOD PARK Race #8 at 7:05 PM Eastern Top pick: #3 (DANCING IN SILKS) - Nice runner will get some class relief today as he moves back in with fellow Cal-breds. Improving at this time and he's developing a rating gear, after having been a "need the lead" type earlier in his career. The choice for the win. 2nd pick: #5 (Lit'sgoodlookingray) - As "honest" a runner as you'll ever see. Tries hard every time and has finished in the money in nine of his last 11 starts, including a smashing win on this track last out. Has a chance for the upset today. 3rd pick: #7 (Star Nicholas) - Late-on-the-scene type enters this off a pair of very sharp races and he has a pair of wins on this surface. Goes longer today and that's an obvious plus. Late threat. 4th pick: #1 (Bahama Breeze) - He's undefeated and has won on a trio of different surfaces. Steps way up in class against this group and the rail draw plus the distance will make his task a difficult one. Horse Racing Picks Resources:
