Preakness Handicapping - December 14, 2007Today we'll skip over Aqueduct and go with some fair weather venues, two races from Calder and another pair of races from the Fair Grounds. Today's Best Bet is # 9 The Darp in Race # 8 at the Fair Grounds. All races from Aqueduct were cancelled yesterday due to inclement weather. Today's Horse Racing Picks: (# 7) HAWAII CALLS - Sharpened on grass Nov. 16 off a layoff and trainer change to a top barn. Tired late after setting pressured, fast pace in debut. Wide trip from tough post two back. Red hot rider back aboard. (# 4) Brinker - Returns. Another who is going from turf to dirt which is a huge positive angle for this barn. Had very rough trip that day as well. Has worked well for this. (# 6) Mystery Guest - Hot trainer stretches this colt out in distance after a good third-place finish in fast race in his debut. Trainer excells with second-time starters. Bred strong for a distance of ground. FAIR GROUNDS Race #EIGHT (3:50 PM Eastern) (# 9) THE DARP - Stretches out for Ronny werner off of a pair of sprints, the second of which was very impressive. Barn is off to a great start, and the distance increase is a positive one for them 21%. Working well locally. (# 3) Zipped - Well backed in his Fair Grounds debut, he ran well by setting/pressing the pace from an outside draw going long. Comes back in two weeks for another try. Jones had a winner again yesterday giving him a 3-for-12 slate locally. (# 6) Buddhakhan - Like most Asmussen runners, start nunmer two is what they normally aim for. Debuted at a mile at Churchill, a pretty tough assignment. Has had a month since that start, and his local drill on Nov. 30 is very sharp. (# 1) Seminary Ridge - Dallas Stewart runner cost $300,000 in a two-year-old sale earlier this season. Drew an inside post in Keeneland debut, then had a troubled trip from an outside slot at Churchill. Working well here, I think he'll run much better. CALDER Race #TEN (4:30 PM Eastern) (# 1) MARINA BALLERINA - Dangerous speed back on dirt and stretching out in distance. Faced tougher in stakes last four starts. Consistent three-year-old shows two wins in three starts on the dirt. (#3 ) Jessica Is Back - Steps up in very sharp form. Goes for her third-straight win after setting the pace in last. Figures to stalk top pick. Another with a fine career record. (# 5) Secret Girlfriend - Improved efforts last two starts with blinkers added. Overmatched in a stake last out. All three wins over this track. CALDER Race #ELEVEN (4:55 PM Eastern) (# 5) FULL SECRET - Claimed last out by Bob Dibona out of a troubled race going two-turns. Broke slowly and rushed up, a recipe for disaster. Tired badly after reaching contention. New trainer, who is fine fresh off the buy, shortens her up for first start under their care. Looks very tough to go past. (# 9) Cocoa Butter - Makes her debut run today for trainer Terry Oliver. Trainer is above average with first timers. Has some swift works, and will need some speed to overcome the poor post. (# 1) Yimic Sword - Combination of experience and the inside draw may translate into a good shot at hitting the board at a square price. (# 6) Rahy Ridge - Has a combination of some early speed and an apprentice signed on. Will try and clear them early and hope for the best. Horse Racing Picks Resources:
