Preankess Pick - December 09, 2008Aueduct and Hollywood will reopen tomorrow and Calder is dark today. Our Tuesday Newsletter will feature five races, three from Philadelphia Park and a pair from "sunny" Turf Paradise. Tampa Bay Downs will open it's long winer meet this Saturday and it will be a part of our Monday and Tuesday wagering menu during the season. Today's Best Bet is #8 Miller Peak in Race #9 at Turf Paradise. Monday's Results: Calder Race #7 Top Pick #2 (Custer) $6.80. ![]() Today's Horse Racing Picks: Top pick: #6 (QUAINT LASS) - Strong try at this tag and distance last out in his second start for trainer Scott Lake. Speed/stalker has raced against better and done well in the not to distant past. Once Lake gets them headed in the right direction, they tend to stay that way awhile. 2nd pick: #1 (Queen of India) - Fast filly draws the rail and takes a big plunge in price today for her third back off an eight-month layoff. Threat on the front end. 3rd pick: #4 (One More Lilian) - Wide effort sprinting in the slop on Dec. 1, and trainer Guadalupe Preciado brings her back in eight days for this longer attempt. Filly was a re-claim earlier this year and that's always a positive sign. 4th pick: #5 (Aliso's Vision) - Raced poorly while wide last out in a race where the top pick defeated her by 14 lengths. Better post could lead to a more comfortable trip and she could hit the exotics at a big price. PHILADELPHIA PARK Race #8 at 3:20 PM Eastern Top pick: #9 (BAILEY'S MOUNTAIN) - Finished second last out to his stablemate and fellow entrant "El Batallon". Stalked that day from the rail, bid and was up late for the place. Has good positional speed so this outside post shouldn't have much of a negative effect. Wins this from just off the lead. 2nd pick: #10 (El Batallon) - Swept by them all last out (including the choice here) with a powerful move that started just past the half. The far outside draw must be overcome by a runner who's not too fast early. 3rd pick: #4 (Wannabe) - Outfinished by the top two choices last out, but he ran an excellent race from a poor post (10). Wasn't beaten all that much and he lost a lot of ground around both turns. Runs well again today. 4th pick: #5 (Favorite Valay) - Stretches out off a sprint try last out that saw him make up a lot of late ground. Previous effort saw him finish second at the Meadowlands for this price going this distance. Contender at nice odds. TURF PARADISE Race #3 at 3:30 PM Eastern Top pick: #4 (DEAL THE HEAT) - Filly looks extremely tough to beat and the price will be small. Either win bet her or try and hook her up in exactas with our other underneath choices. 2nd pick: #2 (Vala) - Sprinted on the dirt last out in her first race in six weeks. Good turf record and she's wheeled back quickly (10 days) for her return to the infield. She was defeated by the top pick this past summer at Canterbury Downs. 3rd pick: #3 (Screaminleapoffaith) - Grass record is a fine (12-1-3-3) and she has the ability to stalk and pounce, which could prove lucrative given the abundance of speed signed up. 4th pick: #1 (Forbidden Bliss) - Speedy, lightly-raced daughter of "Kissin Kris", has the most early foot and draws the hedge. She'll try and win the race to the first turn and slow things down. PHILADELPHIA PARK Race #9 at 3:50 PM Eastern Top pick: #3 (MARKET TUMBLE) - Ships down from New York and trainer Rick Violette enters him in a career "soft" spot. Away since early October, he has some speed to offer and in this weak field he should pick up the maiden win. 2nd pick: #11 (Razzle Dazzle) - Off slowly last out from the rail at this tag, he rushed up to get near the leaders and tired a bit late. Moves off the rail and has both speed/stalking ability. Win threat. 3rd pick: #6 (Grandee) - Debut runner by "Buddha" has a nice series of works including several fine gate moves. He's almost five-years-old without having ever started - and that's not a good sign. 4th pick: #8 (J T's Bad Boy) - Tired in the slop while racing wide at this level last out. His ability to track the leaders could lead to a board finish. TURF PARADISE Race #9 at 6:10 PM Eastern Top pick: #8 (MILLER PEAK) - Last was visually impressive. Broke a little tardy, then quickly moved up on the turn and went by the vanquished like they were standing still. This is his first against winners and a tougher assignment. 2nd pick: #5 (Ok Bay) - In a top barn (Keith Bennett) and this will be his first start on this circuit. Away 16 months, he's raced well in a return pair against tougher on the No. California scene. Working well and trainer Bennett wins with 30% of his new arrivals. 3rd pick: #9 (Reagan's Genius) - Longshot appears to be nearing a competitive race. Latest showed some progress and he could hit the board at a very big price. 4th pick: #4 (Dixieland Meeting) - Returns from just under a 3 1/2 month layoff. Already proven that he can compete at this level against winners. Work activity is encouraging and his ability to offer some late run is a plus. Horse Racing Picks Resources:
