Kentucky Derby Handicapping - December 09, 2007Yesterday we hit another exacta, this time from Fair Grounds race No. 11 (13-2) good for $75.80. Today we'll concentrate on Aqueduct and Turfway Park with five races for analysis and selections. Turfway's Sunday Post is 1:10 PM EST. Today's Best Bet is: #1 La Porta in Race # 3 at Aqueduct. Saturday's Results: Aqueduct Race # 5 Top Pick Winner #1a (Al's Lark) Paid $4.60. Fair Grounds Race #10 Best Bet Winner #1 (Costa Rising) Paid $2.80. Fair Grounds Race #11 Top Pick Winner #13 (Fass Feat) Paid $16.40. Exacta - Top Pick with 2nd Pick (13-2) Paid $75.80. Today's Horse Racing Picks: (# 1) LA PORTA - Filly improved from start one to two for Todd Pletcher. Attempts a distance around two-turns today and draws the advantageous rail position. Has had a month since her last start. From on or just off the pace. (# 6) Rough Water - Tony Dutrow trained filly has improved in each of her three starts. Has already tried a two-turn race and finished second at Delaware in her last race. Has had two months since that effort and she'll run well. (# 3) Ferry Inferno. - Stretches out for the Contessa barn off a single sprint. Has been training over the inner surface and should run well. AQUEDUCT Race #FOUR (1:50 PM Eastern) (# 10) ON WITH IT - Poor start in last cost him all chance. Came here from Keeneland and the fine Biancone barn to Linda Rice. Showed speed against open maidens in Kentucky. Contends here with an alert beginning. (# 2) Friendly Freud - Needs to rebound from a poor recent outing. All other starts have been competitive, and he should run well today. (# 7) Tough Negotiations - Lasix is administered today for gelding that showed high speed in only race. Drops into a claimer and looks primed for a top effort. (# 9) Daddy Eddie - Well bet in all four starts, he has tried different tactics without success. Meets a relatively weak group and may pick up a slice. TURFWAY PARK Race #THREE (2:00 PM Eastern) (# 4) THE CLEVEREST - Ran a sharp race in a third off the layoff situation when in for this price tag for the first time. Daughter of "Clever Trick" has some speed and should be on or just off the lead from the start. (# 2) Rendevous Sioux - Drops into a claimer for Dan Smithwick off a May layoff. Claimed for $62,500, and one win later they elect to put her up for sale for $30K today. Has some ability, and if ready she'll factor with this modest group. (# 8) Miss Rerun - Last run was a bit encouraging, her second time in for this tag. Ran well here in an allowance on Sept. 16, and she may be coming into this on an upward note. (# 3) Coulee - She's working extremely fast for this return from a mid-October freshening. This is only her second time in a sprint in nine tries. AQUEDUCT Race #SIX (2:45 PM Eastern) (# 8) SWEET BAMA BREEZE - Strong favorite should get the job done after finishing second in all three of her starts, including a $100,000 stake last out. Can take this from on or just off the pace. (# 7) Love Co. - Showed speed in finishing second in only start. Another who is working on this strip, and Dominguez takes over today. (# 10) Kaz Court - Speed shown in return off a three-month layoff. Should go much better with that start under her belt. Several sharp works are on view. (# 6) Sorority Sister - Trouble in only start cost her any chance of running well. Goes second time out for Tony Dutrow, a 21% winning move by the trainer. TURFWAY PARK Race #NINE (4:50 PM Eastern) (# 11) BELLICOSE - Big effort second off a spring layoff to finish second at Keeneland in a seven-furlong race. Previous race was over this surface and she missed breaking her maiden by a nose. Working swiftly for this contest she is the horse to beat. (# 7) Victorianna - Strong return race at Churchill off a late-June vacation. Just missed at this distance after battling for the lead the whole race. Makes a quick return (about three weeks) and has a pair of interim drills. (# 4) Spanish Omelet - Has improved a bit with each start so far. Last was very good try for a $50,000 tag, battling the whole race and finishing fourth, beaten by a neck in a blanket photo. (# 5) Somethingintheway - Fields most experienced runner has several tries that put her in the mix. Last was sub-par, so she cuts back in distance for this. Horse Racing Picks Resources:
