Triple Crown Horse Racing - December 08, 2008With the major centers "dark" for the next two days, we'll have five races on the menu from Philadelphia Park and from Calder. Today's Best Bet is #8 Harold's Sister in Race #8 at Calder. Sunday's Results: Aqueduct Race #6 Top Pick #1 (Light's Out Annie) $3.90. ![]() Today's Horse Racing Picks: Top pick: #1 (SIX SHOOTER) - Trainer Steve Klesaris sends this son of "Red Bullet" a distance after a useful sprint debut at Delaware almost a month ago. Raced evenly in that effort and think with the rail draw and the trainer's great stats for the stretch-out attempt that he'll win this on the front end. 2nd pick: #8 (Smart Bid) - Good return run in a sprint here in his first back from a four-month layoff. Good barn (Graham Motion) and son of "Smart Strike" is wheeled back quickly for this distance attempt. 3rd pick: #3 (Saturn Five) - One of a pair from trainer Tony Dutrow and they'll race uncoupled. Finished an even third last out in his second start and first over a route of ground. Could improve significantly with that first distance experience behind him. 4th pick: #6 (Our Thing) - The second of the Dutrow runners raced evenly in a sprint here in his debut finishing fifth of 11 in that large field. He's been working both steadily and quickly for this attempt. CALDER Race #7 at 3:10 PM Eastern Top pick: #2 (CUSTER) - Makes his first start back in Florida after a strong try at the Meadowlwnds last out. He's been sharp ever since coming to the barn of Eddie Plesa and has been a consistent performer all year. Working well since coming here and he's the choice for the win. 2nd pick: #9 (Georgian) - Hard-hitter has been first or second in nine of his last 10 starts and has a fast work on November 30, in preparation for this attempt. 3rd pick: #1 (Burns up the Track) - Comes back off a layoff and will race on real dirt and with a reduction in class. Has the rail and the easier opposition makes him a contender. 4th pick: #12 (Ningbo) - He's been away a long time and he draws a tough assignment and a tough post. Still, if ready, he could wind up with a small slice here. PHILADELPHIA PARK Race #8 at 3:20 PM Eastern Top pick: #7 (HOLY DOKIE DOKIE) - Speedy filly just failed to hold on in the slop last out at this starter-allowance condition. Race was her second off a claim by team "Gill" and she looks on edge for this effort. Her speed should carry her to the win. 2nd pick: #3 (Easta Monster) - Has been competitive in all starts since her maiden effort. Speed/stalker fits here, is game, and loves to "duke it out." Jersey-bred is the main contender. 3rd pick: #4 (Kiss and Fly) - Broke her maiden in her debut with a late rally in a $35K state-bred claimer at Belmont. Finished evenly and mid-pack in a stakes in her first start against winners. Contender. 4th pick: #2 (Saldanha) - Makes her first start on real dirt and first for trainer Scott Lake. Draws the rail and has speedy. Filly has been working well, but will need to be very sharp to contend. CALDER Race #8 at 3:40 PM Eastern Top pick: #8 (HAROLD'S SISTER) - Filly has finished in the money in three of her four trips to the post. Trainer Larry Bates names Jeremy Bridgmohan again and he's been aboard in her best starts. Breaks her maiden today. 2nd pick: #6 (My Scandalous) - Faced tougher in New York earlier this season and will be running on this circuit after a layoff, and trainer switch to veteran Larry Pilotti. 3rd pick: #3 (Wouldn't You) - Recently returned from a two-year layoff and raced evenly at this level. No doubt she needed that effort badly and just a slight move forward could land her a share of this. PHILADELPHIA PARK Race #9 at 3:50 PM Eastern Top pick: #1 (THAT MAGIC MOMENT) - Dropped to this price tag ($5000) last out for the first time, he responded with a strong second-place finish. Stalker draws the rail and should get a solid and the pace should be fast. 2nd pick: #6 (Beechmont) - Races at this $5K tag for the first time and he's been competitive in a number of races against tougher. Win contender. 3rd pick: #3 (Joanne's Paulus) - Very fast runner will be making his first stsrt for trainer Phil Aristone off a recent claim. Trainer wins with 19% of his fresh purchases and this runner could prove hard to catch. 4th pick: #9 (Call the Raise) - Field's "wildcard" chased the pace last out against $10K foes in his first race in 11 months. Drops in half today and could prove a tough foe at a square price. 5th pick: #5 (Stormin Bleu) - He's raced at this condidion for a long time with many small slices. Today's pace set-up could allow him to be close at the end. ![]() Horse Racing Picks Resources:
