Horse Racing Best Bets - December 05, 2009It was reported yesterday that Rachel Alexandra has settled in nicely in her barn at the Fair Grounds and had a nice morning "jog" once around the famous oval. Today's newsletter features two races apiece from Aqueduct and the Fair Grounds and one from Hollywood Park. Today's Best Bet is #12 Smokenomore in Race #4 at Hollywod Park. ![]() Today's Horse Racing Picks: Top pick: #6 (STEALTH MISSILE) - In-shape after having a seven-week rest in late summer, one-run type is nicely spotted today in this starter-hdcp by trainer Brice Levine and this runner loved this surface last winter (6-2-2-2). The top pick. 2nd pick: #3 (More Than a Reason) - In the best shape of his career he likes to stay close and he too has had success here in the past (8-1-2-2). The main danger from just off the lead. 3rd pick: #1 (Tizsilk) - Has the rail and the best early speed. He proved in his latest that he can win on this circuit and gelding by "Tiznow" has had a great season (9-5-3-0). Faces some really tough competition this afternoon. FAIR GROUNDS Race #2 at 1:55 PM Eastern Top pick: #4 (CAJUN LEGEND) - He showed some sharp speed last out in his first race back off a long layoff. Drops down for this and he should be much more fit for his second back. Can win this on the front-end. 2nd pick: #12 (Click Away) - Has some speed in a race without much and last out he race very wide from a tough starting post (12). Draws poorly again but should get a much better early spot this afternon with a solid shot at the top selection turning for home. 3rd pick: #6 (Bayou Lad) - Drops to a career soft spot in his first back off a layoff. He showed some speed when last seen and it came against tougher. 4th pick: #3 (Regreta's Gold) - He has a flexible style and has finished second in his last pair. The top pair are better win candidates, but at this level ($15K) just a slight move forward could change all that. AQUEDUCT Race #6 at 2:50 PM Eastern Top pick: #3 (MORNING RUN) - Colt raced close-up early on a sloppy track in his debut before tiring badly. Freshened-up for the past seven weeks by trainer Bruce Levine, gelding drops into a claimer, is working sharply, and gets the addition of lasix. Levine is deadly second time out (28%) and evn better on the drop into a maiden-claimer (31%). The top pick. 2nd pick: #6 (Five Aces ) - Takes the same drop as the top selection and he showed big speed on Nov. 21 facing tougher. Dominguez climbs aboard for the first time, signaling that the barn (Gary Contessa) likes his chances. 3rd pick: #9 (Wildcat Glory) - Home-bred had trouble at the start in his debut yet still was able to get the lead and didn't wilt until the last 1/16th. He's worked sharply since and can factor today. 4th pick: #1 (Forty Prayers) - Colt finished second in his debut at Saratoga and was promptly claimed that day by Dave Jacobson from Todd Pletcher for $50K. Sent in for a 2 1/2 month retoolong he raced evenly in his return on a sloppy track on Nov. 14. Drops, has the rail, and gets the addition of blinkers( a 19% winning move by the barn). HOLLYWOOD PARK Race #4 at 5:00 PM Eastern Top pick: #12 (SMOKENOMORE) - Speedy gelding finished a pace-setting last out at this level and distance and the horse that beat him quickly came back to win another. He's worked twice his latest and is the horse to catch and beat. 2nd pick: #13 (Captain Cash) - Excellent barn (Eoin Harty) send out this stalker that finished an even third last out at this tag in his first back off a two-month layoff. He's worked three times since and Bejarano climbs aboard. Contends today. 3rd pick: #3 (Rember Mike) - Lightly raced son of "Vindication" finished second two back against tougher, than raced evenly at this level last out while racing in traffic most of the race. Fits from just off the pace. 4th pick: #6 (Ben's Bullet) - Gelding by "Red Bullet" returns today from a late May layoff and in a career soft spot. Competitive against tougher at that time he's been working steadily for his come-backer. 5th pick: #8 (Smokey Beau) - Drops and cuts-back in distance for the top barn of John Sadler. He hasn't raced since March, but is working fast. May need one. FAIR GROUNDS Race #9 at 5:25 PM Eastern Top pick: #1 (ELISION) - Filly has been "tearing it up" in the mornings here and runs for a barn (Malcolm Pierce) that's sent out some well-meant horses early in this meet. Stalker has a good post and can win this if she can "out-kick" the runner to her immediate right in the gate. 2nd pick: #2 (Akilina) - Sharp barn (Chris Clement) has this Filly well spotted as New York-bred takes on "open" foes this afternoon. In fine shape and she can be placed just about anywhere. Inside draw is a plus and she's a win candidate. 3rd pick: #10 (Redreamit) - Has some speed, so the outside post shouldn't hurt her chances. The always dangerous barn of Ken McPeekl drops her back into an "overnight" stakes after she raced evenly last out in a Graded stakes in Kentucky. 4th pick: #6 (Bubbler) - Field's "wild card" is two-for-two (both easy wins) and is in an excellent barn (W. Bret Calhoun). She's shown versatility in the two victories and wiil be trying the turf for the first time.
