Free Horse Racing Picks - December 05, 2008It was announced yesterday that "Street Hero" who had finished third to "Midshipman" in this year's "Breeder's Cup Juvenile Colts" has been retired to stud due to an injury. He'll join the stallion ranks at the "Vinery" in Kentucky. Today's Newsletter has five races, two each from Aqueduct and the Fair Grounds, and one from Hollywood Park. Today's Best Bet is: #7 Footnote This in Race #9 at Aqueduct. Thursday's Results: Aqueduct Race #8 Top Pick #5 (Taquarub) $8.20.  Today's Horse Racing Picks: Top pick: #5 (GREENWOOD BOY) - Nice return run on Halloween, his first race in 10 months and first for trainer John Parisella. Stayed close to the pace throughout, bid turning for home and was beaten less than a length. He's drilled three times since and is the horse to beat. 2nd pick: #3 (Perfect Precision) - Improved race noted in his most recent when dropped to this level and with the addition of blinkers. Ready for his best. 3rd pick: #1 (Hainesport) - He's run well in his three starts back from a five-month break. Stretches-out today and draws the coveted rail. Offers some nice value in the exotics. 4th pick: #7 (Greenspirit) - Makes his third career start, drops into a claimer, and will stretch-out in distance, all for the country's leading trainer (Steve Asmussen). Threat. FAIR GROUNDS Race #4 at 2:55 PM Eastern Top pick: #2 (CLOUDSPUN) - Tries the grass today off a very "useful" debut run. Filly stalked the pace from a wide post, bid, reached the front in mid-stretch, but flattened out a bit late. Daughter of "Halo's Image" has been given some time in-between and has a half-dozen good drills. Barn (Steve Asmussen) is strong second time out. 2nd pick: #9 (Grand Finesse) - Good barn (Wally Dollase) sends this daughter of "Grand Slam" back to the grass after tiring on "poly" last out. Previous turf race saw her finish a good 3rd in her second lifetime start. Runs better today. 3rd pick: #7 (Pleasant Song) - Finished second last out at a mile, so she'll be cutting-back in distance today. Daughter of "Unbridled's Song" has faced-off against some tough runners without breaking her maiden. 4th pick: #5 (Bruco Vale) - Good Canadian barn (Malcolm Pierce) sends this late finisher back to the grass after she failed in a "polytrack" race last out. Strong late kick is a plus on this turf. Special Race Notes: In the event that this race is run on the dirt, the selections will remain the same. AQUEDUCT Race #9 at 4:05 PM Eastern Top pick: #7 (FOOTNOTE THIS) - Speedy colt was "buried" on the inside while facing pace-pressure last out. Drops and stretches-out today for trainer Todd Pletcher, and he has a pair of sharp works wince his latest. Wire-to-wire threat. 2nd pick: #2 (Two Decades) - Takes the big drop from maiden-special's into a claimer. Raced well against "open" maidens at Suffolk and was overmatched in his debut on this circuit. 3rd pick: #5 (A Flying Jet) - Raced o.k. despite some traffic trouble in his first for trainer Dave Donk. Can see him stalking and making a late impact. 4th pick: #8 (Prince Phillip) - Tries a distance after a pair of rather "blah" efforts in a pair of well-bet sprints. Contessa trained runner may appreciate the added yardage, and at a good price today. HOLLYWOOD PARK Race #4 at 5:00 PM Eastern Top pick: #5 (SURPRISES WELCOMED) - Daughter of "Storm Cat" cost $3,000,000 and is still trying after five starts to break her maiden. She's finished "in the money" in all of her starts, including a pair on the grass. Well spotted in this turf sprint and she's the choice for the win. 2nd pick: #6 (Precious Union) - Improving for a good barn (Richard Mandella), and she's run strongly in her trio of turf sprints. Win contender, and I almost put her on top. 3rd pick: #4 (A Flicker of Light) - On the board in her last pair (both turf sprints) but "Precious" handled her last time and should move forward more than this filly. Tri-player. FAIR GROUNDS Race #9 at 5:20 PM Eastern Top pick: #6 (WIZARD'S LAUGH) - Looks like the main speed and he's coming off a win at Philadelphia Park. Son of "Distorted Humor" is lightly raced and just now appears to be coming into his own. 2nd pick: #5 (Deep Canyon) - Drops back into a claimer after a pair of strong efforts in allowance races at Presque Isle. Claimed by Tim Glyshaw three back, he'll be returning from a four-month break today with some fast drills in his pocket. 3rd pick: #2 (Parade the Flag) - Probably needed his last at Delta Downs and he returns to the Fair Grounds where he broke his maiden last year.
