Horse Racing Picks - December 03, 2008Racing at Aqueduct moves to the inner-dirt-track a.k.a (inner-surface) today for the next four months. Grass racing will continue for several more days, weather permitting . This means the end of 7 furlong racing and the one-turn ("flat") mile until the main-track re-opens in late March/early April. 5 1/2 and 6 furlongs will be the only sprints available with everything else conducted around two-turns. It was announced by Lanes End Farm that "Dixieland Band"a 28yr.old stallion by the famed "Northern Dancer" has been retired from the active "sire" list at that distinguished farm. The sire of 115 stakes winners and one of the most prolific "broodmare" stallions in history, will live out his days at the farm to which he retired in 1984. Today, we have five contests on our Newsletter, three from Hollywood Park and a pair from Aqueduct. Today's Best Bet is #4 Delosovientos in Race #8 at Aqueduct. Tuesday's Results: Turf Paradise Race # 2 = Best Bet # 2 (Hollywood Adviser) $5.20 We had three of our 2nd picks win yesterday: Turf Paradise Race # 3 = # 7 (But I Don't Know Andy) $8.00 Philadelphia Park Race # 7 = # 5 (Light Sentence) $7.40 Philadelphia Park Race # 9 = # 6 (Valridge) $8.40
![]() Today's Horse Racing Picks: Top pick: #4 (DELOSOVIENTOS) - Looms a heavy favorite and "right-fully" so. Distance loving runnner has a wonderful one pace stride that has led him to 4 wins in his last five races with the lone loss coming on "poly-track" at Del Mar. Working well and he's beaten better fields than this. 2nd pick: #1 (Lorccan) - Improving noticeably of late, he's won 9 and 12 furlong races already this year and it appears the "longer the better". Nice use in the exacta. 3rd pick: #3 (Lovely Highway) - West-coast import will make his first start for the potent Roddy Valente/Bruce Levine combination. That duo has had a lot of success over the years with many California shippers. This has never won on dirt, but put in a fine effort going long at Fairplex two back. 4th pick: #5 (Ravel) - Lightly raced son of "Fusaichi Pegasus" appears to be able to "run all day" and he's been in with some pretty tough competition through-out his career. Contender for the exotics. HOLLYWOOD PARK Race #2 at 4:00 PM Eastern Top pick: #5 (JAMES PRIOR) - Drops in class and he's been working extremely fast for start number two. Trainer (Vlad Cerin)is one of the best at the new category of "turf to "poly"(22%) and think this runner can break his maiden today. 2nd pick: #1 (Must Be Joking) - Goes in a claimer for the first time after five starts at the MSW level. Stretches-out off a fine 4th place finish in a sprint and he could find himself just off, or maybe even "on the pace" today. 3rd pick: #2 (Lucky No. Thirteen) - Raced well in his debut sprinting, and trainer Gary Mandella will send him a route today off that initial outing. Mandella is a fine 18% on the increase in distance. AQUEDUCT Race #9 at 4:10 PM Eastern Top pick: #3 (IRISH MAMA) - Blinkers will come off for filly who had no chance last out after "breaking in the air". Good speed to offer and the rail should be hers for the taking. The rail on this inner-surface is very often a "huge" advantage. 2nd pick: #8 (My Cruiser) - Daughter of "Mayakovsky" showed good debut speed when well-bet on November 12th. Now trained by "Chip" Dutrow, he adds both lasix and blinkers for start number two. 3rd pick: #11 (Knot News) - Finished a fine 2nd at this price facing "open" maidens on Halloween. That was with the addition of blinkers and she'll move back in with state-breds today. Contender. 4th pick: #10 (Cherry Lady) - Drops in half after racing evenly in her latest, which was her first ever on the dirt. Working well for the Tagg barn and this is one of the few they left here after shipping to Florida the other day. HOLLYWOOD PARK Race #4 at 5:00 PM Eastern Top pick: #3 (BAND OF THUNDER) - He's certainly taken to the turf after trying it after 26 lifetime starts. May have been best in his infield debut after having "severe" traffic woes in the stretch run. Won his last with a strong late rally and will try a grass route today for the first time. 2nd pick: #6 (Liberian Freighter) - In-shape runner is the speed of the speed and will race anyone into defeat who tries to run with him. Moves up a bit in class, but his fine early gear compensates for that move. 3rd pick: #4 (Men's Magazine) - Flattened out in his return race on October 12th after being on the sidelines for almost 2 years. Race wasn't bad as it was against stakes runners. He's had 7 weeks to recover and has worked a half-dozen times in preparation for his 2nd off the bench. HOLLYWOOD PARK Race #6 at 6:00 PM Eastern Top pick: #2 (DRAMA CAT) - Second-time runner should receive a very fast pace to rally into if all go. She broke very "poorly" last out and rallied late to finish 3rd. Had her share of support at the windows that day and gets a positive rider switch to Bejarano. 2nd pick: #5 (Wild Apart) - Working well for a new trainer (Kathy Walsh) and filly will be dropping into a claimer for the first time. Can easily see her being a big factor today. 3rd pick: #10 (Perfect Vintage) - Professional maiden is a reliable late finisher and has finished on the board in 4 of her last 5. Pace should be very fast here and that would aid her cause. 4th pick: #4 (Sister Lucy) - Fast runner will be dropping into a claimer after showing big speed in all her starts at the MSW level. If she clears early, which is possible, she could be long gone. Think "Wild Apart" will keep her from doing that. Horse Racing Picks Resources:
