Horse Racing Best Bets - August 30, 2010Were almost into September and Saratoga wil be heading into its big final week. Yesterday's "Personal Ensign" stakes may prove to be Rachel Alexandra's final start as she could not hold off a very mediocre filly ("Persistently") in the last 100 yards and the reigning "Horse of the Year" may now be heading to the breeding shed. Today's East Coast sheet has two races apiece from Delaware and Saratoga. Today's Best Bet is #3 Clever Ralph in race #3 at Delaware park. Sunday's East Coast result: Saratoga Race #5 (#7 Bank Heist) $4.90.  Today's Horse Racing Picks: Top pick: #3 (GERARD LOVES BEER) - State-bred has the best speed and will drop into a claimer for the first time. Working fast locally since a troubled start here July 25 and he's the horse to beat. 2nd pick: #1 (Corrao) - Working very fast for his debut and son of "Lion Heart" is in a barn (J.P. Terranova) that's having a career best year. Trainer wins at a 20% rate first out and his main rider (Channing Hill) is aloft. 3rd pick: #5 (Hasten to be King) - Debuting colt is in good hands (Rick Dutrow) and has been working well at Monmouth for his first start. Has some nice gate drills, so it looks like speed is present. 4th pick: #4 (Scotchirish) - He finished a game second here August 5 facing slightly tougher and races today with blinkers added and in a third off a long layoff situation. Contender. SARATOGA Race #3 at 2:05 PM Eastern Top pick: #8 (SULTRYSILVER) - Daughter of "Eurosilver" has some speed and races today off almost a nine month layoff and for a new trainer (Bruce Levine 28% with new arrivals). Working fast and she meets a weak field. The top pick. 2nd pick: #4 (Bandit Lady) - First-time starter is another from the Rick Dutrow barn that's been prepared elsewhere (at Aqueduct). Some of the drills are encouraging and this field is pretty weak. Contends today. 3rd pick: #6 (Salty Little Sis) - Filly by "Chief Seattle" has a steady work pattern and the drills have been picking-up in intensity. In a fine barn (Barclay Tagg) and Dominguez is aloft. 4th pick: #1 (Turn That Paige) - Daughter of "Read the Footnotes" had a troubled start when debuting here August 11, but showed fine early speed before tiring. Draws the rail and her trainer (Tim Ice) won a race yesterday. DELAWARE PARK Race #3 at 2:10 PM Eastern Top pick: #3 (CLEVER RALPH) - Gelding by "Newfoundland" drops into a career soft spot after setting an extremely fast pace last out facing tougher. Barn (Randy Nunley) has been hot the last month and this three-year-old may win this one early. 2nd pick: #1 (Bruddah) - He's been competitive in all his starts racing for this tag and one-run type draws the ground saving rail. Looks like the main danger. 3rd pick: #6 (Aces Wild Again) - He'll be trying winners for the first time following his maiden win here 13 days ago racing for $10K. Has a good late kick that could grab him a part of the exotics. DELAWARE PARK Race #8 at 4:25 PM Eastern Top pick: #11 (AQUADILLA) - Daughter of "Stormy Atlantic" debuted at Saratoga in a sprint August 9 and had some early traffic issues before racing evenly. Good barn (Mike Matz) brings her back quickly and stretches her out in distance. The top pick. 2nd pick: #7 (Mankai Blossom) - She set a solid pace last out in an "off the turf" contest and is brought back quickly for this turf attempt. Filly should have gotten some "bottom" out of that and should set her up for a big effort today. 3rd pick: #2 (Lily of Johar) - Debuting filly is in a barn (Kevin Boniface) that specializes in turf horses and this daugter of "Johar" has been prepared off-track at Bonita Farms. 4th pick: #3 (Nottawatch) - She finished a close-up fourth at Colonial in a turf sprint July 19 then was pulled-up here in a switched contest here last out.
