Free Horse Racing Tip - August 26, 2008As we head into the last big week of both Saratoga and the summer season, reigning Horse of the Year "Curlin" will make next start in the "Woodward" stakes this Saturday at the Spa. Today we have to switch our attention to Delaware Park with the major centers dark for a day. Today's Best Bet is #1a Crusinwithcharlie in Race # 8 at Delaware Park. Today's Horse Racing Picks: Top pick: #1a (LASTRAW) - Returns to "real" dirt after a series of three races at Presque Isle. Has a big class edge as he's been competing against and doing well facing tougher. Gelding is one of a pair entered by Scott Lake and they'll race as an entry. 2nd pick: #1 (Baltimore Raven) - The second part of the Lake entry comes back off a two-month layoff today. Lightly-raced three-year-old will be racing at a career low in claiming price if he goes. Fits well and is a win candidate. 3rd pick: #3 (Majestic Melody) - Makes his first start since June 21, when veteran trainer Howard Wolfendale claimed him for $5000. Trainer is good off the buy (19%) and even better off the layoff (29%). 4th pick: #2 (Local Celebrity) - Rallied in his latest to finish third for $5000. Race was his second off a Tony Pecoraro claim and was his best effort in some time. DELAWARE PARK Race #4 at 2:05 PM Eastern Top pick: #6 (JUST MONEY) - Filly will be racing against winners for the first time in this starter allowance. Fresh off an impressive maiden win, she's racing fit where several of the others have various "conditioning" issues. Can win this with a stalking journey. 2nd pick: #2 (Roundly) - Finished a distant second last out at this condition and distance despite having a poor start. Consistent mare has raced almost exclusively on this course throughout her career (14-4-2-3). Tough opponent. 3rd pick: #1 (Call Me Chaotic) - Filly may hold the "key" to this contest as she has the best speed but has been sparingly raced the past 10 months. Draws the rail and has a 10 lb. apprentice signed on, so a "theft" attempt appears to be the strategy. Delaware Park Race #7 at 3:25 PM Eastern Top pick: #3 (FREE UP GRADE) - Speedy three-year-old has run a pair of strong races after shipping here from the west coast. He'll make his third straight start for a new trainer, having been claimed last out by Tim Ritchey. Gelding has the best speed and can win this wire-to-wire. 2nd pick: #6 (Western Pirate) - Won his last impressively, but was disqualified for a late lane change. He's in very good shape at present and a repeat effort of his latest could win this. 3rd pick: #9 (The Boiler) - Raced evenly late after showing some speed last out in his first race in nine months. May improve enough off of that one to threaten this group. DELAWARE PARK Race #8 at 3:50 PM Eastern Top pick: #1a (CRUSINWITHCHARLIE) - Coupled in the wagering with "Case Notes", this runner has been a strong, consistent performer since a Scott Lake claim this past June. Speed/stalker will be dropping off a fine second place finish last out for $10,000 and is the choice for the win. 2nd pick: #2 (Woody's Apache) - Gelding is six for 16 on this surface and one for 17 elsewhere. He's coming off a win in his first off a Pete Walder claim and he also draws the coveted rail. Win contender. 3rd pick: #4 (Bentrovhto) - Hard-hitter was claimed by Mike Gorham last out and it was in his barn where runner was stabled early in his career. Comes off an impressive win sprinting, and he'll go two-turns again, which he has proved successful at in the past. 4th pick: #9 (It's Time to Smile) - Drops and is stretched out today by trainer Steve Brown.
