Harness Horse Racing - August 25, 2008With "Travers" weekend behind us, racing will be heading into it's last big week of the summer season with Labor Day almost upon us. We have four more races from Saratoga for analysis and selections today. Today's Best Bet is #1a Talking Treasure in Race #9 at Saratoga. Sunday's Results: Saratoga Race #3 Exacta (6-7) $17.00. Saratoga Race #11 Top Pick #3 (Exonerrated) $7.00. Today's Horse Racing Picks: Top pick: #2 (DRIVEN BY SUCCESS) - Easiest kind of winner on this surface in his first race since late February. Runner has the most speed and anything near a repeat of his last will win this. 2nd pick: #4 (Dazzling Derek) - Scratched on Saturday from a longer turf event to await this short dirt contest. Runner has some talent, is in a good barn (Richard Dutrow) and goes third off a nine-month layoff. 3rd pick: #8 (Bazoom) - Finished second in a longer race at Belmont after shipping from California. Shortens up and draws a good post. 4th pick: #5 (Borrowing Limit) - Finished a non-threatening third last out to a pair that are just plain better than him. Stalking style will afford him every chance as they turn for home. SARATOGA Race #2 at 1:30 PM Eastern Top pick: #8 (FIVE STAR CHOWDAIR) - Good speed shown in her bow on this track August 5. Filly chased a good-looking winner and was not pressured late when the outcome was not in doubt. Barn (Bruce Levine) is solid second time out (26%) and she has a good work since the debut race. 2nd pick: #2 (SOAVE) - Trainer (Tom Bush) is having a "slow" meet, but this daughter of "Brahms" is a solid fit off her debut at Belmont on July 9. 3rd pick: #5 (Noble Action) - Good win early trainer (Linda Rice) and sire: "Hook and Ladder". Latest work is rather good and filly can impact this contest first time out. 4th pick: #4 (La Concerto) - Daughter of "Aptitude" cost $110,000 earlier this year at two-year-olds in training sale. Very sharp drill on August 4, is surrounded by more ordinary looking works. SARATOGA Race #6 at 3:30 PM Eastern Top pick: #3 (HIGH DRAW) - Flew home after a troubled break to just miss at this tag and distance on August 4. Filly is improving and should run "big" for "Hall of Famer" Allen Jerkens. 2nd pick: #1 (Lightintheforest) - Led the way to deep stretch on August 4, in a race common to many entered here. She's worked sharply since, indicating that another "top" try is coming. 3rd pick: #10 (Princess Westly) - Looked like the winner turning for home last out, but she had so much momentum that she blew the final turn. Plugged on thereafter to finish a close-up fourth. Filly is a big presence here. 4th pick: #7 (Empress Indy) - Filly has no speed whatsoever, so she'll have to get a good pace in front of her and out-kick the other closers. She'll need some breaks. SARATOGA Race #9 (THE SARATOGA DEW) at 5:30 PM Eastern Top pick: #1a (TALKING TREASURE) - In career-best shape at present, filly has proven that she likes this course (3-2-1-0) and has run well "two-turning" in the past. She should be positioned down the backstretch just off the rail runner and go by her heading for home. 2nd pick: #2 (Ice Cool Kitty) - Veteran mare won this race last season and appears well set-up by her connections for a repeat. She goes third off a layoff, has a sharp recent work, and draws the rail. 3rd pick: #7 (Raffie's Treasure) - Romped at this distance last out when a stakes event for state-breds was washed off the turf. Lightly raced and improving, this outside post is a difficult one and is viewed as a negative. 4th pick: #3 (Morning Gallop) - Deep closer rallied late to finish in a seven-furlong race common to several others entered. She'll need a fast/contested pace to have a chance at more than a minor award. Horse Racing Picks Resources:
