Horse Racing System - August 11, 2008Saratoga continues to get rained on, so we'll limit our activity there today to three scheduled dirt races with one from Delaware that we like. Today's Best Bet (TURF ONLY) is #1 Just Regal in Race # 4 at Delaware Park. Sunday's Results: Saratoga Race # 1 Top Pick # 5 (Hawkwood) $7.10. Saratoga Race #10 Top Pick #1 (Dr. Pleasure) $8.20. Del Mar Race #3 Ex. (5-7) $21.20. Today's Horse Racing Picks: Top pick: #1 (GOLDEN GLEN) - Trainer (Mike Maker) won a pair here last week and has sent out other runners that have run well. This veteran was claimed two back for $32,000 and new connections gave him one on the grass (not his best surface) against better, before sending him in for a freshening. Working well, moves back to the dirt, and draws the rail. 2nd pick: #7 (Wood Winner) - Won at this distance on this course last year. Middle-distance specialist stretches out today for a barn (Randi Persaud) having a career year (14 for 98). He'll take them a long way. 3rd pick: #5 (Delta Sea) - Deep closer has done some of his best racing at this particular distance (19-5-2-1). Fits at this level and the two-turn nature of the contest is much more suited to his style than Belmont. DELAWARE PARK Race #4 at 2:05 PM Eastern Top pick: #1 (JUST REGAL) - Nicely-bred filly from a quality outfit (Darley Stable) ran to her breeding last out in her first on turf and first over a distance of ground. Stayed on well the whole race and was beaten only by a neck. Any further improvement wins this. 2nd pick: #10 (Mountain Style) - Returned for a good trainer (Jonathan Sheppard) at Colonial on July 4, and ran well in her first race in three months. She was well bet that day and is a strong win candidate in her third lifetime start. 3rd pick: #6 (Change That Dial) - Pin Oak stable home-bred has run a pair of good races to begin her career. Made up some ground in her latest and was only beaten about three lengths by the top pick. 4th pick: #4 (Ellenrubiniere) - Four-year-old daughter of "Eltish" has finished in the money in six of her ten lifetime turf races. Fits well in this mostly lightly-raced group and her distance experience is a plus. 5th pick: #8 (Move It) - Daughter of "More Than Ready" flashed some speed earleier this year in a series of three races at Gulfstream and Keeneland. Bred for the turf, this will be her first attempt on it. Special Race Notes: In the event that this race is switched from the grass to the dirt, the selections are: #8-Move It #4-Ellenrubiniere #1a-Game Show #10-Mountain Scene SARATOGA Race #5 at 3:00 PM Eastern Top pick: #2 (SMOKIN HERO) - He's been in a pair of very tough fields to begin his career and to his credit has finished a strong second in both. Has the best speed of those who have run and and is a wire-to-wire threat. 2nd pick: #1 (Paramedic) - Ran fine in his debut which saw him beaten by the top pick by 4 1/2 lengths. He's worked well on this surface since and could easily improve quickly off the initial race and narrow the gap on the top pick. 3rd pick: #8 (Trieste Boble Q) - Firster draws a good post for the distance and has been in steady training at the Spa. for some time. Several of the drills are very good and he could make an impact on his first crack out of the gate. 4th pick: #6 (Remarkable Storm) - Has the most racing experience and has proven that he can pass other runners. Slowly but steadily improving, he's an exotics threat. SARATOGA Race #7 at 4:00 PM Eastern Top pick: #3 (BITABAZ) - Good debut speed chasing a quick pace at Belmont in a race that was dominated by the top two finishers. Drops in for a tag and may get to the coveted rail in the first few jumps. Prado sees fit to give it another go, and he and trainer Rich Schosberg make a solid team, winning at 24% when together. 2nd pick: #5 (Mr. Peterson) - Chased a fast pace in his well-bet debut at Belmont on June 15. Freshened up since, he drops into a claimer and gets the addition of blinkers, a move that trainer Bill Badgett has won with three of his last six such moves. 3rd pick: #6 (Shifty Guy) - Firster from Hall of Famer Allen Jerkens, has a sharp gate move on the July 4, at Belmont, followed up by some stamina building works. 4th pick: #1 (Early Response) - Firster by the solid young sire, "Hook and Ladder" comes to you from an underrated barn (Dom Galluscio) which year in and year out is solid with it's debut stock (20%). Runner may sneak away at a square price. Horse Racing Picks Resources:
