Horse Racing System - August 10, 2008Today's Newsletter will consist of four contests, one from Del Mar and three from the Spa. Today's Best Bet is #7 Big Red Tate in Race #3 at Del Mar. Saturday's Results: Saratoga Race #9 Top Pick #1 (Forest Command) $3.50. Del Mar Race #5 Top Pick #8 (Arashi Cat) $10.40. We had two other nice priced winners in our selections, Race #2 at Saratoga #2 (Flying Private) $18.00, and Race #5 at Saratoga #3 (Dr. D F C) also $18.00, but did not hook them up properly in the exactas. Today's Horse Racing Picks: (# 5) HAWKWOOD - Good effort last out going wire-to-wire. The only other time he "cleared" early also produced a win. Appears to have the most speed again and he draws a good post for this 6.5-furlong distance. (# 7) Wolfson - Excellent try in his last, which was his first against winners. Battled from start to finish from a tough inside post in the mud and held gamely to finish third. Moves to a cozy outside draw and he'll be stalking close-up from there. (# 2) Dr. W - Speedy sort has tried this condition five times with most of his efforts being good. Has speed/stalking ability and will be in range turning for home. (# 1) Coastal Drive - On the shelf since last December, runner just missed becoming a stakes winner in his first try off a Richard Dutrow claim. Working well for his return, he draws a tough post to be successful from. Trainer wins with a solid 20% off of long layoffs. SARATOGA Race #TWO (1:30 PM Eastern) (# 3) PRECURSOR - Half-million dollar son of "A.P. Indy" finished second in his debut run at Belmont on July 17, from a poor post (10). Wide the whole race, he was fanned well out in the track turning for home, but still put in a late rally to secure the place. The horse to beat. (# 5) Charitable Man - Sharp gate work on view for a barn (Kiaran McLaughlin) that does well with debuting runners (18%). Son of "Lemon Drop Kid" looks ready off the recent drills to make an immediate impact. (# 6) Trevelyan - Mr. Todd Pletcher has been on quite a roll early in the meet and just about everything he has sent out has run well. Colt by "Fusaichi Pegasus" has been training here since May and looks well prepared by a master with young stock. SARATOGA Race #TEN (5:40 PM Eastern) (# 1) DR. PLEASURE - Veteran held some real promise at one time, but various physical problems have limited his action since day one. He hasn't run since mid-March at Gulfstream, but has done well off of layoffs before. He likes the two-turn nature of this race and trainer John T. Ward won another yesterday making him two-for-three at the meet. Rail draw is a big plus. (# 5) Premium Gold - Got the job done last out at Monmouth with the addition of blinkers to his arsenal. Lightly raced and well-bred, he may be ready to come into his own. (# 7) Screen to Screen - Finished second earlier this year in the "WinStar Derby" at Sunland Park when still a maiden. Broke his maiden two back in the Belmont slop, then ran a fine third in his first against winners. His only other attempt at this distance was the race at Sunland. (# 6) Squeeze Now - Showed some promise late in '07, but was on the shelf for almost eight months. Return race at Philly saw him finish a strong second and he should be more fit for this effort. DEL MAR Race #THREE (6:00 PM Eastern) (# 7) BIG RED TATE - Claimed by veteran Bill Morey last out, this gelded son of "Orientate" has raced well in all four career starts (4-1-3-0). Good tracking speed to utilize and new trainer wins back with 33% of his recent buys. One of a pair entered by Morey and they race un-coupled. (# 1) Roadside Rest - Solid runner (8-1-4-0) was claimed out of his last by the powerful Doug O'Neill barn. Colt will go in a starter allowance and return to the poly-surface. Dangerous foe from gate to wire. (# 3) Special Grey Ghost - The second of the "Morey" runners broke his maiden last out in his first race on this surface and his best overall effort by far. (# 5) Candy Pull - Gelded son of "In Excess" has finished second in his last pair at this condition at Hollywood Park. If he can bring that good form with him he would be an exotics threat.
