Santa Anita Horse Racing - August 06, 2008

We had a nice day at Delaware Park yesterday and hope the momentum carries over today as we go back to Saratoga for three contests and Del Mar for one.

Today's Best Bet is #4 Steal My Charm in Race #3 at Del Mar.

Tuesday's Results: Delaware Race # 1 Ex. (5-2) $139.40.

Delaware Race # 7 Best Bet # 8 (Quiet Lee) $5.40.
Ex (8-3) $19.20.
Trifecta (8-3-6) $125.80.
Superfecta (8-3-6-4) $499.40.

Delaware Race #9 Ex. (5-1) $52.80.

Today's Horse Racing Picks:

SARATOGA Race #ONE (1:00 PM Eastern)

(# 2) KNOW THE GAME - Nice race at Belmont in his first appearance on the New York circuit. Bumped at the break, he rallied while well out in the track and leveled off in the last furlong to run third. Has good speed and a nice post to use it from. This distance has been kind at this meet to runners with his style.
(# 4) Fly the North Wind - Strong win contender is in good shape at present having finished second in his last pair at Belmont at this tag and condition. Sharp work at Aqueduct on July 26, indicates his readiness.
(# 5) Sacrifice Bunt - Once classier runner held some promise when in the Bill Mott barn last year. Was dropped into a claimer last out at Churchill and was promptly snatched-up by the potent team of Ken and Sarah Ramsey and trainer Mike Maker. Carefully and nicely spotted in his first for the new connections. Big player.

SARATOGA Race #TWO (1:30 PM Eastern)
(# 4) COASTAL FLARE - Strong race last out in his second start off almost a year layoff. Runner is obviously better on the grass and latest at Belmont was his best ever. Nice work on July 31 seals the deal.
(# 5) Exchanging Kisses - Runner will be trying a distance of ground for the first time. Paul Pompa/Pat Reynolds runner has finished second in all three of his turf races, losing by narrow margins each time. Has good speed and expect him to be on or just off the top most of the contest.
(# 7) Tanganyika - Tries claimers for the first time and that is a significant drop from MSW competition. Runner cost $450,000 as a two-year-old and started in the Todd Pletcher barn. Now with Chris Clement he looks set-up for his best.
(# 10) Westward Go - Post will really hurt this runner's chances. He has to try and save some ground early or be forced into a wide tracking trip which would almost certainly doom his chances. Contender, but needs some breaks.

SARATOGA Race #SIX (3:30 PM Eastern)
(# 2) EL TAMBERITO - Excellent second last out at Belmont in his first back off a seven-week layoff. Well bet since he first came to the races and his recent work activity is very strong. The choice for the win.
(# 3) Driven By Success - Freshened up since February when runner last competed. Talent is present off what he showed in his first three starts, and trainer Bruce Levine is one of the best off a rest (32%).
(# 1) Afrikaner - Closed late in his debut after a slow beginning to finish second. Pace was a contested one that day and no doubt helped his showing. Son of "Johannesburg" should improve in run number two.
(# 9) Rock Key - Not sure his latest is repeatable, as that second place finish was by far the best race he has ever run, and it came it start number 10. He could effect the exotics if he runs well again.

DEL MAR Race #THREE (6:00 PM Eastern)
(# 4) STEAL MY CHARM - Drops into a claimer for the first time and filly has run well in all of her starts against better. Has tractable speed and a good drill since her last race and is the horse to beat.
(# 7) Legacy North - Excellent debut saw this daughter of "In Excess" well bet and finish third. Tracked a moderate pace, made a bid turning for home and leveled off late. Barn (Brian Koriner) is very strong second time out.
(# 6) Mom Knows Best - Off slowly in her debut run before passing a few late. Stays at the same tag and should improve in her second start.
(# 1) Keon - Speedy filly returns from a race at the Pleasanton Fair where she forced a fast pace while wide and tired a bit to finish third. Draws the rail and will no doubt try and sprint clear early.
