Today's east coast edition of our newsletter has three races (including the "Met Mile") from Belmont Park and a pair from the big Memorial Day card at Monmouth.

Today's Best Bet is #3 Virtues Under Fire in Race #3 at Belmont Park.

Monmouth Park Race #4 Exacta (2-5) $30.00.

Exacta (4-8) $23.60.
T-fecta (4-8-3) $53.50.

Today's Horse Racing Picks:

MONMOUTH PARK Race #2 at 1:20 PM Eastern

Top pick: #1 (CAUGHT IN ACTION) - Speedy filly is lightly raced, in a good barn (Kelly Breen), freshened-up for the past seven weeks, has a great local work, and draws the rail. She looks tough in this spot.
2nd pick: #4 (Thatallshewrote ) - Daughter of "Yes It's True" is in the barn of Todd Pletcher and is also working well for her first race in seven weeks. She has a trio of published local works and her stalking style is fine here with all the speed signed-up. Win candidate.
3rd pick: #11 (Miss Lulu Belle) - Has ability and is in a very good barn (Wesley Ward). She's fast early but so are some others and she has a tough post. She'll either have to send hard or try and rate a bit. Contender.
4th pick: #3 (Mindy Michelle) - Longshot drops in half after a wide trip from a tough post (11th of 11) here on Opening Day. She's consistent and is a threat at a nice price.

BELMONT PARK Race #3 at 2:00 PM Eastern
Top pick: #3 (VIRTUES UNDER FIRE) - Believe he's finally caught the right field today in his 10th start (9-0-2-2). Gelding has the most talent of those that have started and the only one that can beat him to the top is the debuting runner from the rail (if he's quick from the gate). Trainer Tim Hills drops him a notch today and he races in a career soft spot. The top pick.
2nd pick: #8 (Ming Boggling) - No-speed type will be flying down the stretch ( as usual) and has just missed in his last pair. This is start No. 27 but at least he tries hard each time. Stretch threat.
3rd pick: #1 (Just Abit Sandy) - First timer comes from a veteran barn (Bob Barbara) and has been in steady training for some time now. Has the rail and is a win threat if he runs to his works.
4th pick: #2 (Last Mistake) - He's finished second in his last pair with an apprentice aboard and gets a major rider upgrade to Rajiv Maragh today. Contender, but may be over-bet a bit.

BELMONT PARK Race #4 at 2:30 PM Eastern
Top pick: #7 (CHRISTMAS FOR LIAM) - He's only one of three entered to have won on this deep track and his came last out and was by far the most impressive of the trio. Son of "Breeders' Cup Classic" winner "Saint Liam" (who did it here) looked awesome breaking his maiden going a mile on this surface April 30 and has a pair of good works since. Home-bred in the Pletcher barn may be a very talented runner. The top pick.
2nd pick: #8 (Biloxi) - Speaking of talent this son of "Tiznow" has looked sharp in his two starts and "Triple Crown" nominee is in the barn of Richard Dutrow. Stalker tries this "tricky" surface for the first time and will do it going 2 furlongs farther than he's raced before. Win candidate with Dominguez.
3rd pick: #6 (Johannesburg Smile) - New York-bred defeated a much weaker bunch here April 30, but he's clearly improving since being sent longer and he's working nicely for this. Price play in the same race exotics.
4th pick: #2 (Pretty Boy Freud) - Another state-bred he has a pair of wins in '09 on this surface and draws a tough group for his first ince Dec. 13. Working well and he has a flexible style. May reach the exotics at a nice price.

MONMOUTH PARK Race #10 (THE EATONTOWN H. (G3)) at 5:20 PM Eastern
Top pick: #1 (EYE OF TAURUS ) - She's two for three on this surface and although she lacks a lot of seasoning compared to the others filly by "Aldebaran" is still improving. Nice race at Keeneland in her seasonal bow April 11th and that should set her up for this. The callin a competitive contest.
2nd pick: #6 (Maram) - Very lightly raced, but also very talented. One-run type makes her first start since the "Breeder's Cup Turf mile" for fillies and mares last Nov. at Santa Anita. Working nicely and she won her '09 debut off a longer break. Big win candidate.
3rd pick: #2 (Omega Cat ) - A bit cheaper than the others but she really stepped it up last out in her first for trainer Marty Wolfson (who improves just about everything). Can contend here at a big price.
4th pick: #7 (Gypsy's Warning ) - South African-import has beaten males on several occsaions and will race with lasix in her North American debut. Working well for her new trainer (Graham Motion) and she's the race's wild card.

BELMONT PARK Race #10 (THE METROPOLITAN H. (G1)) at 5:45 PM Eastern
Top pick: #7 (QUALITY ROAD) - At this stage and in his present form he's the best horse now racing in North America. He's hit "triple digit" figures in seven straight races and his two wins earlier this year at Gulfstream were visually impressive. Continues to train like a champ and he'll need his best as this is the strongest field (by far) that he's ever faced.
2nd pick: #3 (Musket Man) - Has a lot of talent and he's been facing some very tough fields since early in '09. Capable at this grueling mile trip and he has a recent "bullet" drill at Monmouth. Has a flexible style and he'll make the top pick run hard every step.
3rd pick: #6 (You and I Forever ) - Comes off a win at Gulfstream March 13 in a Grade 2 stakes at this mile trip and earlier this year he finished second to "Quality Road" in the "Hal's Hope". Versatile as to style and he's a nice price to use.
4th pick: #2 (Tizway) - Lightly raced five-year-old is training super up at Saratoga and he's done some good things on this surface. Likes this mile trip and is a big price use in the same race exotics.
