Premium Picks

Game: Colorado at Dallas (3:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: 2 stars on Dallas -165

The Avs limp into the playoffs having lost three straight and 10 of their last 16 games. They enter this game, as expected, as an underdog. Colorado is just 8-20 this season in that role. Since the mid-way point of the season, Dallas is 33-8 at home. And, they step it up vs. good competition. The Stars are 16-2 at home the last three seasons after the mid-way point vs. winning teams. Dallas makes it tough to score on them, they allow just 25.6 shots on goal per game. Colorado is just 2-13 this season vs. teams that allow under 26.5 SOG per game. Colorado is all offense and no defense. Come playoff time, that's a recipe for disaster. Stars here.

Game: Montreal at Carolina (7:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: 4 stars on Carolina -181

Carolina rocked this year winning 52 games and 31 of their 41 at home. They were also 40-14 in the favorite role this season. They scored 3.7 per game at home this year on 11.7% SOG. Not good for Montreal who allowed 3.2 per game on the road. Montreal couldn't counter their poor road defense with a good offense this year, either. They scored just 2.8 per game on the road on way to a 18-23 record. Carlolina way too much for Montreal in this one.

Game: Philadelphia at Buffalo (7:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 stars on Buffalo -150

Buffalo finished strong winning their last five and seven of their last eight games. Five of those eight wins were even as an underdog! Today they are favored. Again, we have another poor defensive team in Philly, who allowed 3.2 goals per game this season. Buffalo wasn't that much better but they were better. And, they are at home. And, they have a stronger offense. The Sabres scored 3.7 per game at home this season inluding nearly 5 per game towards the end. The Sabres are peaking at the right time and should roll here.

How much to bet? I recommend 1% of your bankroll for every star. A one-star pick = 1% of bankroll. A five-star pick = 5% of bankroll. It is strongly recommended that you never bet more than 5% of your bankroll on any given game! Remember, there are no such thing as locks. Never bet over your head and you'll live to see another day. Approach your bets as an investment that grows steadily over the long-term. For more, see my write-up on Bankroll Management.
