NHL Hockey Premium Edition
March 26, 2006

darrell,

0-3 last night. While the Buffalo and Minnesota games were close to even money and could have gone either way, the Detroit loss was terrible. I am still in shock that Columbus went into Detroit and won, especially after Detroit jumped to a 3-0 lead. I am still blown away. We'll get some back tonight with two picks.

Keep your head up and stick on the ice, darrell!

Premium Picks

Game: San Jose at CHICAGO (7:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: 2 stars on San Jose -185

Chicago, losers of four straight, seven of eight and 9 of 11, get the Sharks tonight. San Jose is 7-2 in their last nine games including recent road wins in St. Louis (6-0) and Minnesota (5-1). Their only two recent losses came to Dallas and Detroit. San Jose has won the last two games in this series and Chicago is a pitiful 5-25 this season attempting to revenge a same-season loss. San Jose is perfect this season (11-0) vs. bad teams liek Chicago that have won <25% of their games.

Game: Toronto at NEW JERSEY (7:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: 2 stars on Toronto +174

Toronto is 3-0 against New Jersey so far this season yet they are +174 underdogs here. Hmmm. The reason is Toronto's recent play. In their last five games they have given up 3.6 goals per game and scored just 1.8. But, their defense has been that bad all season. It's really their offense that has fallen. Yet, they are 2-3 in that stretch and they've lost 5 of 7. And, the Devils' offense has also taken a big dive of late (they are averaging 2.4 goals per game in their last five). They are also 2-3 over that span. So, both teams are struggling. Toronto simply matches up well against NJ and given their recent success, this high a line is a gift especially on a team that needs to win to keep playoff hopes alive.

How much to bet? I recommend 1% of your bankroll for every star. A one-star pick = 1% of bankroll. A five-star pick = 5% of bankroll. It is strongly recommended that you never bet more than 5% of your bankroll on any given game! Remember, there are no such thing as locks. Never bet over your head and you'll live to see another day. Approach your bets as an investment that grows steadily over the long-term. For more, see my write-up on Bankroll Management.
