Game: Atlanta at CHARLOTTE (7:35 PM Eastern) Pick: 2 stars on Atlanta +4
Yes, the Hawks have won just 21 games this year, but Charlotte has won 3 less. Furthermore, the Hawks beat this team on the road last time by double digits and given that the Hawks are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games on the road, it is appealing to take them here again with the points. Although Charlotte has shown some life lately, it seems that they are entangled in constant close games as the OT game to Orlando recently showed. Let's tap into this ATM machine called Atlanta underdog again as they go on the road to Charlotte.
Game: Dallas at DETROIT (7:35 PM Eastern) Pick: 3 stars on Detroit -5.5
It's not very often you get the ex-world champs for under 6 points at home. The reason is that that Detroit plays the Mavericks whom they lost to by an embarassing 30+ points last time around getting their first loss as they were 8-0 heading into that game. And Detroit comes off a rare home loss (just the third all year as their home record is now 30-3). These facts are not reasons to fade the Pistons but rather to back them as they look to take it to the Mavs as they had it handed to them back in November. Thus, compound this with the fact that the Mavericks are resting key guard reserve Devin Harris as well as starter Josh Howard for the playoffs, this helps the Pistons in the shortened bench for the Mavs. The once world champs are the team to back with revenge and home court on their side.
Game: Seattle at MEMPHIS (8:05 PM Eastern) Pick: 2 stars on UNDER 199
When you look at Seattle, your immediate repsonse is to bet the over. Yet, the last 3 games these teams have played have had low totals. Recently they totaled 173 in Seattle on March 8th with Memphis winning 99-74, 196 total in Seattle with Memphis winning by 4 in December and Memphis winning again by 28 at home in a game that totaled 163 very early in the year. hus, 163, 196 and 173 are the succession of point totals and this game is now totaled at 199. Considering that it is at Memphis as the pace will be expected to be slower, I like the under. Compound this with the fact that the unders have hit 8/11 times in this series at Memphis, the under os the play here.
Game: Phoenix at MILWAUKEE (8:05 PM Eastern) Pick: 3 stars on Milwaukee +6.5
Did you realize that Steve Nash was held to 0 points for the first time in 3 years against the Nets in the Suns recent embarassing loss? Yes, the Suns will come out fired up today, but will it be enough? They have not played well of late including road losses to the Jazz, Portland and Spurs. Given that, they play a Bucks team that has played decent at home blowing out the Bulls and beating a sound Toronto team in OT at home. Adjusting to the loss of T.J. Ford, this team has found a groove and although they might not win this game SU, the fact that they get nearly 7 points as a home dog, and the fact that the Suns have been struggling, seems to be a solid bet here on the home dog. It is unlikely that Phoenix will suddenly fix their problems as they travel without rest and play their third game in four nights. Milwaukee has won five of their past eight games overall and they will be competitive tonight as a home underdog playing with revenge.
Game: San Antonio at LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS (10:35 PM Eastern) Pick: 2 stars on Los Angeles Clippers +2
The Clippers are dogged by a bucket considering that they beat this same Spurs team by double digits at home previously. The Spurs have been 4-5 on the road of late and have struggled where as the Clippers have won their last 2 but it's the way that they have won that has been impressive. THey won by 14 on the road against Portland and beat a very good Wizards team at home by 15. Thus, they play the Spurs again and given the Spurs inconsistency and the fact that the Clippers are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games following a SU win, let's take the home dog in the Clippers to make a repeat of what they have been doing to good teams of late at home.
