St. Louis took game one by jumping out to a 5-0 lead and holding on. The last 12 teams to win the NLCS game one have gone on to the World Series. They'll face Roy Oswalt today. In last year's NLCS matchup, Oswalt pitched twice against the Cards and posted a 6.75 ERA. He's been great this year but is only 5-4 against St. Louis with his team losing 8 of 15 when he has started. St. Louis thrives against very good pitchers. They are 18-5 in home games vs. a starting pitcher whose throws more than 6.5 innings per start this season. In last year's series, the home team took all seven games and this one may now follow the same pattern. Mark Mulder has a 2.51 ERA at home this season and St. Louis is pounding the ball of late (6.5 runs per game in the playoffs). Houston's pitching is great but their offense probably doesn't have enough to keep up with St. Louis. One star on the Cardinals.
