*Philadelphia -129 over WASHINGTON (4:05 Eastern)

Philly is closing on the NL wildcard. Meanwhile, the Nats have lost 11 of their last 13 at home. The Phils go with Brett Myers who has a 3.01 road ERA this season. He'll be facing John Patterson who has been very good at home but Philly needs this one and will find a way through their offense. The Phillies are scoring a ridiculous 6.6 runs per game over their last seven. Home teams at +125 to -125 starting a pitcher whose WHIP is 1.250 or better on the season and who ar a terrible power team averaging 0.75 or less HR's/game on the season are 12-31 (28%) over the past five seasons. One star on the Phillies to keep hope alive.

****TORONTO -156 over Kansas City (4:05 Eastern)

We were all over the Jays last night and they rewarded us with a stress-free 10-1 victory. As much as we liked them last night, like them as much or more tonight. The Royals are 21-58 on the road this season and they've set a team record for most losses in a season. Stick a fork in them as they are desparate to just get this season over with. Both of these starting pitchers tonight have struggled recently. Even though rookie JP Howell is off a very good game against Minnesota, his two prior games he was shelled for 10 earned runs in his prior two. Toronto's bullpen is FAR superior to KC's and as we mentioned yesterday, the Royals just don't score on turf. Toronto's offense is hot and will be the difference again here this afternoon. Kansas City is 1-16 on the road this season vs. the AL East. Home favorites of -150 or more batting .265 or worse on the season facing an opponent starting a pitcher who gave up 1 or less earned runs last outing are 80-23 (78%) since 1997. Four stars on the Jays.

*NY METS -191 over Colorado (7:10 Eastern)

Mets are rolling and Colorado on the road is... well... Colorado on the road. New York has won 11 of 14 and look to continue their roll tonight against Mike Esposito, making his third start for the Rockies. Esposito has a 7.72 ERA in his first two games. He'll be opposing Jae Seo who has a 2.67 ERA on the season and a perfect 4-0 at home. New York is scoring nearly 6 runs per game while Colorado is scoring about 4. Colorado lost a close one last night and that does not bode well for them tonight as they are just 4-23 this season on the road off a 1 run loss. They are also 4-21 on the road after 2+ losses. One star on the Mets.

*SAN DIEGO -125 over LA Dodgers (10:05 Eastern)

Opposite directions here. The Dodgers have lost four straight while San Diego has won four in a row. San Diego, in some ways, will be taking this one lightly. Jacob Peavy gets the rest and Chan Ho Park goes instead. But, Park is 12-7 this year and, the Dodgers are just bad right now. Going for LA is Edwin Jackson. Jackson has been hammered in his eight games this year. He has a 7.23 ERA which has been at 9.26 over the past three starts. We'll back San Diego for one star.

How much to bet? I recommend 1% of your bankroll for every star. A one-star pick = 1% of bankroll. A five-star pick = 5% of bankroll. It is strongly recommended that you never bet more than 5% of your bankroll on any given game! Remember, there are no such thing as locks. Never bet over your head and you'll live to see another day. Approach your bets as an investment that grows steadily over the long-term. For more, see my write-up on Bankroll Management.
