*LA
Anaheim/BOSTON Over 9.5 (7:05 Eastern)
We
know Boston can score at home. Tonight they face
John Lackey who is 0-4 with a 6.72 ERA in his
seven careers starts against the Red Sox. Countering
for Boston is Tim Wakefield who has struggled
against Anaheim to the tune of a 4.90 ERA. He's
been shelled recently, posting a 7.36 ERA in
his last three starts. Boston's recipe for success
during their current 21 out of 24 home game win
streak is to simply outscore the competition
while not worrying too much about runs given
up. Games at Fenway this season have averaged
11.3 runs. Wakefield is 11-2 OVER when playing
against a team with a winning record in the second
half of the season over the last
2 seasons. One star on the OVER here.
*Houston
-106 over PHILADELPHIA (7:05 Eastern)
Philly
has yet another chance to piss off their home
town fans this season. This is a huge series with
playoff implications, and we give the nod to the
Stros
pitching staff. The Stros are hotter right now,
having won five of seven, and boast the better
bullpen.
Oswalt has a 2.95 ERA this season. Houston is 20-8
when playing against a marginal winning team
(Win
Pct.
51% to 54%) this season. All in all, Houston is
a
better baseball team, and it will show. One star
on
the Astros.
**CINCINNATI
-159 over Milwaukee (7:10 Eastern)
Cincy
enters this game cold going only 1-6 in their
past seven, but Harang has been their best starter
and
we are not overly confident with Helling, who frankly
should not be pitching in the major leagues anymore.
Harang sports a 3.03 home ERA this season that's
been at 2.14 over his last three starts. Milwaukee
is only 14-34 after allowing 3 runs or less 2
straight
games
over
the last
2
seasons.
Cousins is the umpire here and that
is
good news for the home team. Home teams are 17-8
in
games he has umpired this season. Favorites coming
off a game where they had 4 or less hits, with
a
struggling
bullpen whose ERA is over 6.00 the
last 15 games are 44-13 (77%) over the last 5
seasons. The Reds offense bounces back here.
Two stars on the Reds at home.
*Colorado
+145 over SAN DIEGO (10:05 Eastern)
Colorado
has had a tough season, but they have played
well of late, causing many people in Colorado to
venture this team could compete as early as next
season with an addition or two. Road
underdogs of +125 to +175 that's hot offensively
(batting .333 or better over
their
last 3 games) are 27-12 (69%) in September games
since 1997. Cook has been stellar since his return
from a blood
clot and the Rockies are doing little things well for
the first time all season. He will keep them in this
game tonight, which is all we can ask when we are
getting this type of money on the comeback.
One star on the Rockies here.
