Edition - August 1, 2005

darrell,
While
we went 4-2 yesterday, the 3-star Cubs loss hurt us causing
it to be a slightly unprofitable day. One pick from the small
board today.

Good
luck today, darrell!

| *ATLANTA
-175 over Pittsburgh (1:05 EST)
The
Braves go for sweep #2 today vs. Pittsburgh and they should
get it. With yesterday's win, the Braves are now 9-2 against
the Pirates in their last eleven. In his limited play this
season, Pittsburgh's Zach Duke has done very well. But
he's facing an Atlanta squad on a tear. Over their past
seven, Atlanta's hit .300 on way to a 6-1 record. They
score 5.2 per game at home this season and they'll have
a pretty good pitcher on the mound, too, in Tim Hudson.
Hudson's 7-5 this year and sports a 2.70 home ERA and 1.89
ERA over his last three starts. Pittsburgh just won't score
enough today to keep up. You see, Atlanta does well against
good pitchers (14-4 vs. an NL starting pitcher whose ERA
is 2.70 or better over the last 2 seasons). And, Pittsburgh
does poorly as a big underdog (6-34 as an underdog of
+175 to +250 over the last 2 seasons). Hotlanta for the
sweep for one star.

How
much to bet? I recommend 1% of your bankroll for every
star. A one-star pick = 1% of bankroll. A five-star pick
= 5% of bankroll. It is strongly recommended that
you never bet more than 5% of your bankroll on any given
game! Remember, there are no such thing as locks.
Never bet over your head and you'll live to see another
day. Approach your bets as an investment that grows steadily
over the long-term. For more, see
my write-up on Bankroll
Management.
