Wunderdog NFL Picks and Pro Football Predictions 2002 Weekly NFL Picks Regular
Season Week 4 Welcome
to the 2002 Week 4 Wunderdog NFL Newsletter Believe it or not, there are six games that I like this week, although three in particular strike my fancy. Let's get right to them: Baltimore +7 over Denver
Here we
have a classic match-up of overrated versus underrated.
The Broncos appear to be headed to the SuperBowl,
right? The Ravens are dead in the water, right? Baltimore's
SuperBowl team has been dismantled and everyone is waiting
for them to go down hard. On top of that, they got blown-out
and shut out by TB in their last game. So, we have the
perfect set-up for a blow-out by Denver, right? Not so
fast. The Broncos are 3-0 but their opponents sport
a terrible 3-6 record. Is Griese for real? Only time
will tell, but don't forget he was one missed field goal
(by Jeff Wilkens) away from being benched in week 1 and
his ego is very fragile right now. Some bashin' by Ray
Lewis could easily knock any remaining confidence
right out of him. You read it here first - there will
be a QB controversy in Denver after this Monday. Baltimore,
on the other hand is 0-2 and everyone's favorite whipping
boy. But their opponents sport a record of 5-1. Winless
underdogs after a bye (extra week of preparation, focus
and humiliation) are a staggering good play (83% ATS).
Baltimore's back is against the wall and their manhood
is on the line. Go with Baltimore and the upset!
San Diego +3 over New England The match up of the unbeatens features the home team getting 3 points (equivalent to the lines-makers making NE a 6 point favorite on a neutral site). Think that has SD players are irked and challenged by that? I do. San Diego is giving up a stingy 8 points a game! New England won't be putting up their average 38 points in this one. In fact, they lose it outright.
Cincinnati +7 over Tampa Bay Tampa is tired and overconfident after getting up for a big Monday night game vs. St. Louis. They will be taking Cincinnati lightly. Look for Cinci to bounce back after three straight ATS losses (to good teams).
Kansas City +3 over Miami KC almost beat New England last week. They are a solid team. Home dogs that allowed 40+ points last week are a great bet (think KC's D is working hard this week?). Miami due for a letdown and looking ahead to New England next week.
Detroit +7.5 over New Orleans New Orleans, while deserving of all the credit they are now getting, can't keep up the current pace. Look for a letdown against a team they can't help but take lightly. Detroit gets little respect, but their three losses have come against clubs with a combined record of 7-2 and they are getting over a touchdown at home.
Chicago
+3 over Buffalo
Will
these guys ever get any respect? Chicago was
one play away from being 3-0, losing last
week to a very good New Orleans team. The
simply let down after breezing to an early 20-0
lead. Understand this: The Bears are good! The
Bills are also good but are allowing a dismal
34.7 points a game - second worst in the league.
Drew has been pulling out some miracles late
in the game but that isn't going to work every
week. Look for a tougher time against Brian Urlacher
and the Chicago D. Chicago is the better
team and they're getting a full field goal to
boot!
Good luck!
