The appropriate sports betting mindset with your sports picks

The appropriate sports betting mindset with your sports picks

So you want to get good at sports betting? You need to have the right frame of mind. No one is going to win in sports betting with their sports picks unless they have their mind right. The appropriate mindset is one that expects to win, but knows that losses are inevitable. After all, you are betting on random events. Even if you have a model that tells you what will happen a certain percentage of the time, you can end up in a bad way if you are unwilling to deal with the losses.

Likewise, you need to know that nothing comes easy. The best sports betting mindset is to be a skeptic. Question everything. If you see a line and it looks too good, then you have to ask, “Why?” What is the book doing here and what am I missing? Chances are that you are not the smartest guy in the room. Rather, you are just missing out on a huge chunk of information that some other people might have. If you can take this mindset into sports betting, you will be more successful at the end of the day with your free sports picks.

What is the right amount to bet in sports betting?

What is the right amount to bet in sports betting?

Many people claim to have the right answers on how to structure your bets in order to get the most out of them. Some of these people are right, while others are wrong. So what separates the two sides? It all depends upon how someone calculates his edge. How much you bet on a game depends upon your expected return from that game. Essentially, it is impossible to know how much to bet on each game unless you have good data on how often you should win that game.

Essentially, most people should be betting no more than one percent to two percent of their available bankroll on any given game. This might seem low, but it underscores the idea that bankroll management is important. When you bet more than that with your sports picks, you will have a hard time withstanding any sort of slide. Even if you are good, you are going to have a rough patch or two with your sports betting. Prepare yourself for this and you will be pleased with the results while being able to continue along with your sports betting.

Getting Over the Rush with Sports Picks

Getting Over the Rush with Sports Picks?

One of the most important things that you can do in your sports betting is getting over the rush of placing a bet. Many people play for that rush. This is a horribly misguided way to handle sports betting. The rush is something that can cause you to make mistakes. Think about the last time you had a big game on TV. You didn’t have a good angle on the game, but you wanted action. You wanted to feel that rush as you made your play. In this scenario, you didn’t have an edge, but you played anyway. When you do that enough times, you will lose a valuable chunk of your sports betting investment.

College Basketball Picks Previews: 2011 The Top 10

Wunderdog’ s 2011 Top 25 Part Two: No. 25-11

10. VANDERBILT
Vanderbilt was hoping that Jeffrey Taylor would come back for one more year and they got their wish. That means the Commodores will be returning their top nine scorers from a year ago. That means that the Commodores are not only contenders in the SEC, but could make a splash on the national scene as well. Kentucky is going to be loaded, but a little youthful. It will come down to experience vs. talent, and I think the Commodores can hang with the Wildcats, but nevertheless this team will be heard from in March either way.

9. PITTSBURGH
What can you say about a conference when you can take a team that is Top 10 material, but may not finish better than fourth in their conference? There will be a lot of wars in the Big East this season, and Pitt certainly has the talent to win a lot of them. Pitt gets Top 10 consideration when Ashton Gibbs decided to come back for one more year after testing the NBA waters. Jaime Dixon has built the reputation for having tough, physical teams, and that will once again be the presence at Pitt. This is a team that simply wins 25+ games every year, and this season will be no different.

8. LOUISVILLE
Once again we have a Top 10 Big East team in Louisville. The Cardinals are loaded with nine players back from Petino’s, at times, chaotic 11-man rotation. They now have to plug in a pair of incoming McDonald’s All-Americans and a now eligible Wake Forest transfer. So if Coach Petino can build some team chemistry, he certainly has a lot of talent and depth with this year’s edition. The Cardinals have enough talent, that Petino could be making a Final Four appearance with this group, despite the loss of Terrence Jennings. The schedule will have them ready come March, and a deep run all the way to cutting down the nets isn’t out of the question.

7. SYRACUSE
Jim Boeheim always seems to have enough talent on hand to win 20+ games, finish in the upper tier of the league and make a run in the tourney. The Orange has three holdovers in the backcourt and they have everyone returning except for Rick Jackson. They have also added backcourt depth with a pair of top recruits, and are looking good as usual. The frontcourt is deep as well and if McDonald’s All-American Rakeem Christmas lives up to his billing, the Syracuse has a lot of answers. The Orange was ranked as high as No. 1 a year ago, and certainly have the talent and depth to find themselves there again.

6. DUKE
I’m sure there are many that have Duke ranked even higher than No. 6, but the Blue Devils really lost a lot of senior leadership with the graduation of Kyle Singler and Nolan Smith. They also lost their most talented player in Kyrie Irving. Before you feel sorry for Coach K, he has a plethora of talent including a third Plumlee – considered to be the best of the three. While Irving is gone, Austin Rivers arrives, and may be his equal and more. If Rivers makes the quick adjustment to the college game, as almost everyone believes he can, the Blue Devils are going to be bumping heads with North Carolina for the top rung in the ACC, and much more.

5. MEMPHIS
You might not find many that have Memphis this high, but you have to remember that they have elite-level conference talent playing in a conference that is not as challenging as the others. Memphis returns plenty from a good team last year, and Josh Pastnor has a top class of freshmen coming into the program. This is a team that may need some time to gel, but if the young talent translates to the college level and the holdovers step it up, Memphis is going to win close to 30 games. That will have them poised to be in the Top 5.

4. OHIO STATE
Last year everyone thought that the Buckeyes were going to be cutting down the nets. It didn’t happen, but what did happen was that Jered Sullinger and William Buford are both back. The Buckeyes have some losses to deal with as Diebley, Lighner and Lauderdale have all departed. Ohio State hit the jackpot however, with a pair of McDonald’s All-Americans that will contribute right away in Amir Williams and Shannon Scott. The key will be maturation of now sophomores Craft and Thomas. Ohio State should be the best in the Big-10, and if everything goes right they could also be the best in the country.

3. KENTUCKY
Typical at Kentucky with John Calipari is that the man is a recruiting monster. Liggins and Knight bolted for the NBA, and he has a few more potential one-and-done players right behind them ready to step in. They will surround Terrence Jones. The four newcomers are all special, and all McDonald’s All-Americans and most may be here for a single year. Don’t forget that Doron Lamb returns for some potent outside shooting. One issue of concern is size up front, but no disputing the talent. This will be a dangerous team come March, especially if they share the ball.

2. UCONN
Jim Calhoun pulled off one of the best wins ever in the tourney a year ago, winning five in the Big east Tournament, then six straight in the Big Dance to cut down the nest for the third time since 1999. Gone is do-everything guard Kemba Walker, but a ton of young talent remains that has gained invaluable experience. Then Calhoun pulls off not one, but two late Top 10 recruits in Daniels, and the top big man in the country Andre Drummond. This will be a deep and talented team, and Calhoun seems to get every ounce out of his players. It would be no surprise to see the Huskies cutting down the nets again.

1. NORTH CAROLINA
The Tar Heels have an NBA front line with Hensen, Zeller and the remarkable Harrison Barnes who are all returning. All five starters return with a year of seasoning and a pair of McDonald’s All-Americans joining them. This team is loaded, and goes two deep at every position with little or no drop-off. It will be interesting to see how it all pans out. Will they share the ball? Will they get enough minutes to be happy? Roy Williams has some problems that every coach in America wishes they had. The talent is everywhere, and the Heels should emerge to win the National Championship.

College Basketball Picks Previews: 2011 Top 25 Part One

Wunderdog’s 2011 Top 25 Part One: No. 25-11

25. UCLA
What could have been, has turned a bit more “iffy” for the Bruins. Tyler Honeycutt and Malcolm Lee have both decided to make early departures for the NBA. The cupboard is far from bare however, as the Uclan’s return arguably one of the deepest frontcourts in the country. The frontcourt remains intact, and this year the Ware twins, who transferred from North Carolina, become eligible. If there are concerns that make this team a borderline Top 25 choice, it is in the backcourt where the trio of Jones, Lamb and Anderson all have to step it up. The Bruins are solid up front, and if the backcourt disappoints, they will slip out of the Top 25. If they surprise they will be much better.

24. CINCINNATI
The Bob Huggins era at Cincinnati was both troubling and exciting, as the Bearcats were always good under his watch. The program dropped off, but is back on the rise under the coaching of Mick Cronin. The good news is that the Bearcats played tough again a year ago, and have their top four scorers returning for 2011-12, in what should be a highly-competitive and deep Big East. Throw in some court-readied recruits on campus this fall, and Coach Cronin will have the Bearcats playing tough, exciting and at a high level of basketball – good enough for a spot in the Top 25.

23. XAVIER
The Xavier Musketeers seem to always find their way into the rankings. This is a team that has established a national reputation and despite losses, or returnees, they always seem to be there. This year is no different. Those chances improved when Tu Hollaway tested the NBA waters, but decided to return to Xavier, making them the odds-on favorite to reign supreme in the A-10 once again. Most have this team pegged higher, but although they do return their top three scorers, they lost a lot of depth with a couple of transfers. They are still a talented team and is worthy of Top 25 consideration.

22. TEMPLE
Xavier is penciled in early as the team to beat in the A-10, but don’t count out the Owls. They return four of their five starters and are coming off a successful campaign a year ago. The owls are deep and talented where it counts the most – in the backcourt. They have three interchangeable parts in Fernandez, Wyatt and Moore, and if they get some surprises inside, this team is going to be right there with the Musketeers in March. That should make the A-10 exciting, and Temple should be a Top 25 team when all is said and done.

21. MICHIGAN
It has been awhile since the Fab Five arrived on campus, but the Wolverines have plenty of upside with their 2011-12 version. If Darius Morris stuck around instead of bolting for the NBA, this would be a team worthy of Top 10 consideration. They almost knocked Duke out in the second round of the Big Dance a year ago. Outside of Morris, everyone else returns. While Morris has left behind big shoes to fill, there is plenty of talent and experience for the Wolverines to make some noise. This is a sleeper team for sure and if everything breaks right, they could be a factor in the Big-10 come March.

20. ALABAMA
Alabama really thought their resume was good enough a year ago for an NCAA Tourney bid, but they landed on the wrong side of the bubble. They did however take advantage of their NIT opportunity where they finished runner-up. This year, they should be the best of the West in the SEC, and clearly on the right side of the bubble. Mitchell, Releford and Green were the Tide’s go-to trio a year ago and the top three scorers are all back for 2011-12. If the Tide gets a surprise amongst recruits and bench players, they could develop into a Top 10 or 15 team.

19. GONZAGA
Gonzaga used to be the potential Cinderella with every NCAA Tournament. That label has long been left behind as the Zags seem to be here every single year. Once again the Top 25 would not be complete without them. The talent and experience level here is never in question or doubt, but this year the difference maker will be the play of their backcourt. If they can find more answers than problems from the backcourt, the Bulldogs will once again find their way solidly in the Top 25.

18. MARQUETTE
Marquette seems to be a teaser team. They play hard every single night – a credit to their coach Buzz Williams. A couple of years ago looked like their best team in a while, but last year he took them all the way to the sweet 16 with less talent. Williams has established himself as a Big East coach, and is bringing Marquette back into national viability. They bring back a pair of top players in Darius Johnson-Odom, and Jae Crowder. Although this high of a ranking in the Top 25 may be robust, don’t underestimate the ability of Williams on the sidelines to squeeze out more than the sum of the parts.

17. WASHINGTON
The Huskies took a blow when Isaiah Thomas opted for the NBA, but the cupboard is far from bare in Husky-land. They do return top players in Abdul Gaddy whose season was cut short because of injury a year ago, but he is talented enough to become a star. Terrence Ross has a tremendous upside, and could have a breakout season from the wing. The Huskies are also excited about Tony Wroten Jr. an incoming freshman that should be one of the top newcomers in the Pac-12. Washington has some pieces and great upside, and if Wroten is as good as advertised the Huskies will be deserving of this ranking.

16. FLORIDA
The Gators have a couple of Championships under Coach Donovan. If NCAAB is a guard-based game, then the Gators have the goods. There are five guards here on the roster with three solid holdovers, a freshman, and a Rutgers transfer that give Coach Donovan a lot to be excited about. The key for Florida will be the maturation of Patrick Young on the interior, and finding pieces that fit to fill-in for departures. If the Gators find some answers inside, they will rise into the Top 10, but for now are planted firmly in the middle of the Top 25.

15. BAYLOR
It looked as though the Bears were going to lose the services of do-everything Perry Jones to the NBA. Jones made a surprising decision to return to Baylor, and that immediately elevates the Bears from a top 30-35 team into the top 15. The Bears like to zone opponents, and will again have some length to make shots challenged from all areas of the court. The Bears will need consistency from long range and will have to get steady PG play to deserve the ranking, but the talent and athleticism are not in question. This team could play themselves out of the Top 25, or higher into it as there is a lot of room in both directions.

14. VILLANOVA
The biggest enemy for the Wildcats may be the league they play in. The Big East is going to be a war as usual every night, but there is plenty of talent and experience here for the Wildcats to make a run. Puzzling late season collapses the last two seasons have Jay Wright under the microscope. The Wildcats have a talented PG and a blossoming big man – two key ingredients for success in college basketball, and a large pool of talent to get some exciting surprises. The Cats need to finish like they start and if they do, the Big East will not have an easy game facing Villanova, and a run deep into the tournament is not out of the question.

13. ARIZONA
Arizona looked like a team that could win it all a year ago, but they drew the short straw playing last year’s Champion, and team of destiny UConn to bow out late. They will definitely miss Derrick Williams, but everything else is back in place. They also have a year of experience under their belts. The recruiting class was very solid, giving the Wildcats a lot of depth. If they get the existing talent and newcomers to gel, this could be a team that elevates into the Top 10 and plenty dangerous come March. They should certainly be poised to be the top team to chase in the Pac-12 this season.

12. KANSAS
Many think that this could be the year that Kansas isn’t chasing another Big-12 title, but I think we have seen Bill Self able to bring a lot of young taken quickly together. Last year’s team saw many defections and graduations, only to establish a new identity and very good team. We see that this roster has a lot of new faces, scary for most, but Self has proven when all is said and done the title chase is going to include his team in 2011-12. Like last year, and many other at Kansas, this team replaces talent with equal talent, and the coach makes it work.

11. WISCONSIN
Bo Ryan’s teams never look gaudy, athletic, or talent-laden, but his teams have never finished worse than fourth in the Big-10 since he arrived in Wisconsin 10 years ago. This team plays what most would consider an ugly style, as defense is the leading aspect of what he brings to the court. He does return a solid backcourt and will need some help stepping up in the front court, but Ryan always seems to find the answers, so why should this year be any different. Expect Bo Ryan’s Wisconsin team to be knocking on the door to the Top 10 once again.
