We are through 10 weeks of the NFL season, and like many years there is a bundle of teams in the middle. There stands 12 teams either 4-5 or 5-4, the question is, which ones stand the best chance to rise and make a playoff run the rest of the way?

What’s Wrong in Atlanta?
Jim Mora’s resume outlines a pro football coaching pedigree that has probably been unmatched by few others his age. At 44 he has served on four NFL staffs –SD, NO, SF and now is headman in Atlanta. Prior to that he played under Don James at Washington U. And, of course, his father was a fairly accomplished coach and enabled his son to enjoy a dream teen apprenticeship.
I am such a stupid!
I forget the exact year — 1968 or so. Roberto D’Vencenzo the great Argentine golfer signed the wrong scorecard at the Masters. He had actually won the tournament but as a result of his mistake he subsequently lost the victory to Bob Goalby in a playoff. “I am such a stupid,” he moaned afterwards. Well, move over Roberto.
I lost five games this weekend by a point or less. And all for the same reason — shortsightedness. I actually have a bookie — same guy for 15 years now. When I called to get on Miami plus 3 against Maryland he told me that every client he had was taking Miami. I promptly switched. I hate it when the world goes one way. The world is almost always freakin’ wrong! This time I was wrong. On Sunday I called to get down on St. Louis plus 3.5 and discovered the line had dropped to 3. I switched to Seattle. I called to get down on Pittsburgh -4.5 and learned the line had changed to -6.5. Went right over to New Orleans. Called to get down on over in the Minnesota/GB contest and learned the line had moved from 39.5 to 40. This time I didn’t switch –and it didn’t matter –a push. So there’s not even a pattern to my madness. This after railing about “self-confidence” in a previous posting.
So in the ongoing personal saga of trying to come out ahead consistently in sports wagering I chalk up another lesson. To win consistently, wager consistently. If a one or two point line-swing is really going to make a difference on whom I bet then I shouldn’t be betting that game to begin with. If I like a team and everyone else does too, it doesn’t necessarily assure me of defeat. And there’s one more lesson. If a guy I trust, namely Wunderdog, has a bad Saturday (as he did this week) it doesn’t follow that I should ignore his advice about Sunday (where he kicked ass!) Consistency! Consistency! Consistency! Jeez, I really am a stupid. Hopefully I’m learning enough to rise to at least to dumbshit status.

BetUS.com Posts Odds on Most Likely Quarterbacks to Get Benched
November 14, New York – As the most visible athlete on the field, the quarterback position in the NFL often feels the most pressure for a team’s success, and conversely, its failures. There seems to be a quarterback controversy on at least one team each NFL season where a QB finds himself in danger of losing his job to a backup, or at least getting benched. Most recently, Drew Bledsoe of the Dallas Cowboys and Mark Brunell of the Washington Redskins suffered this fate.

West Virginia Mountaineers vs. Pittsburgh Panthers
Thursday, the West Virginia Mountaineers (8-1 SU & 4-3-1 ATS) look to stay in the Big East title race when they visit the Pittsburgh Panthers in the 99th meeting between the teams.
The Panthers (6-4 SU & 5-4 ATS) lead the all-time series SU 59-36-3, but the teams have split the last six meetings. West Virginia QB Pat White rushed for 220 yards and two TDs in his team’s 45-13 win in Morgantown last season, setting a Big East rushing record for a QB that he then broke with 247 yards against Syracuse on Oct. 14.
