I live in Atlanta and therefore avidly follow both the Falcons and Ga.Tech. I attended the University of Florida and am as rabid as most Gator fans. But here’s some advice — you gotta know the patterns these teams have fallen into over recent years and bet them accordingly. First: The Falcons. Never bet on these guys as favorites. Oh, they’ll cover occasionally –this year against Arizona they did. But Atlanta sucks as a favorite. However, give this bunch points and they play like worlds beaters. Likewise, Georgia Tech only seems to play well when they are dogs or barely favored. However, put them in the favorite’s role and say goodbye to your money if you stick it on the Jackets. Year after year Tech wins or covers games in which they are given only even or long odds. But put them against some crappy ACC foe and they don’t just fail to cover, they get beat! And Florida? Well, no other team this side of Notre Dame is so regularly given more points to cover than is deserved. What hideous luck for me! I can’t bet against my alma mater and enjoy the game so I’ve been left all season long to bet the totals –and even that’s no fun if I take the under!! And Florida almost never scores more than enough points to do more than eek out a win. So what’s the lesson for you: well, Detroit will cover against Atlanta and probably beat them outright. NC State is a near lock against Tech in Raliegh and Florida will be lucky to get past Vanderbilt and stands hardly any chance of covering 2 TDs. That’s just the way it works with my friggin’, flukey teams! All three lack true killer instinct.

Placing faith in somebody else’s acumen over my own has always been difficult for me. I was a sportscaster for 20 years and have followed most sports avidly throughout my life. At various times I’ve paid for advice and almost always been disappointed. The recommendations often seemed like “shots-in the dark” and were rarely backed up by sound logic.

But this Sunday further galvanized my faith in Wunderdog. Not only did all of his selections prove accurate but also the reasoning behind them was precisely what occurred on the playing field. I like nothing better than wagering and knowing by the third quarter I have very little to worry about. These were SAFE COVERS. I spoke to my bookie –yes, I still have an old-fashioned guy with no web site and just a bunch of telephones –and he told me that 90% of the bets he was booking on the Sunday night game were coming in on Carolina. He wished me well on my Dallas bet and asked me why I liked the Cowboys. I couldn’t bring myself to say that like most of his other bettors I really thought Carolina was in a great position to win the game going away. Instead, I told him it was just a hunch that Dallas as a team was ready to make a statement that backed Parcells decision to dump Bledsole for Romo. In truth, my hunch was that Dog was hot and I was ridin’ him home.
So thanks, Dog. I know I sound like a shill for your services but I’ve become an enormous fan of your insightful thinking… Simeon in Atlanta

The loss by USC this weekend, really has a negative impact on ND. They have to make up ground, and with a game left at the end with USC, if they were undefeated it would have made a lot of difference. Games left with service academies, and Stanford, just isn’t gonna get them there now. Meanwhile, another situation is developing. Auburn may not get to the SEC Championship game, yet be in the BCS Championship! one would also have to look at the BIG EAST. What if for arguements sake Rutgers runs the table, bests Louisville at home, then goes down to Morgantown, and beats WVA? They have a long way to go, but probably wouldn’t be enough! it seems like year after the year the BCS flaws show themselves over and over, there has to be a better way, but unfortunately big money stands in the way!
