*DETROIT
-102 over Minnesota (7:05 Eastern)
Ladies
and gents, Minnesota is hurting. They are giving
up runs in buckets as they allowed Cleveland
to score 23 in their series win over the Twins.
Kyle Lohse gets the start for Minnesota and
he's been shelled to the tune of a 7.07 ERA
his last three starts. Countering for Detroit
is Roman Colon who has a 3.62 ERA in his starts
and 2.95 ERA at home. Lohse is 1-8 vs. AL
teams with an on base percentage .330 or worse
in the
second half of the season this season. He's
also 0--7 vs. losing teams over that same span.
We'll back the Tigers at home for one star
here.
**PHILADELPHIA
+127 over Atlanta (7:05 Eastern)
Atlanta's
hot right now and they get a rookie in Eude
Brito. But don't count this young gun out.
In his 3 games, he's got a very goot 2.79 ERA.
At home, Philadelphia belts out 5.1 runs per
game and their bats have been even hotter of
late. A few things line up to make Philly attractive
here. Atlanta's coming off a big 11-1 win over
Florida. But, the Braves are just 11-24 on
the road after a win this season and 7-17 in
road games after scoring 8 runs or more over
the
last 2 seasons. Meanwhile, Philadelphia is
13-1 at home with an on base percentage of
.350 or better over their last 20 games and
15-3 in
home games after 6 or more consecutive home
games this season. We like Philly in this underdog
spot for two stars.
*CLEVELAND
-145 over Oakland (7:05 Eastern)
CC
Sabathia is as hot as the Cleveland Indians.
Over his last three starts he's put up a 1.61
ERA. The Indians are holding opponents to just
2.1 runs per game over their last seven games.
Teams off a game
with 17 or more hits and now starting a hot
pitcher with a WHIP <1.000 over his
last 5 starts are 43-16 (73%) since 1997. One
star on the Indians.
*San
Diego -104 over SAN FRANCISCO (10:15 Eastern)
Barry
Bonds is expected to return in this one. But,
with Adam Eaton on the mound, the Padres should
be too much for the Giants. Eaton is 10-3 this
season and San Diego is 8-3 against San Francisco
as well. San Francisco is managing just 3.9 runs
per game (3.1 over their last seven). San Diego
has also struggled offensively but they have
the better pitching which includes a bullpen
with a 3.63 road ERA. One star on San Diego here.
