NCAA BASKETBALL PICK OF THE WEEK
2004
Week ending
March 27th
2
Stars: Xavier (+2.5)
vs. Texas
While the Big
12 may be the best
conference in the
land
this season, the
Musketeers and
the Atlantic 10
are
certainly making
a statement. It
took a late run
by
Wake yesterday
to even threaten
St. Joseph's. The
bad news for Texas
is that St. Joseph's
may not even
be the best team
in the Atlantic
10. There is
certainly no one
playing better
basketball than
Xavier
and their star
guard Chalmers
currently. The
Musketeers slaughtered
Mississippi State
to get here.
Texas has been
unimpressive but
effective to this
point, beating
an unspectacular
Princeton team
and
holding on against
North Carolina
to get here. Xavier
enters having won
14 of their last
15 games, and is
truly on a roll.
Consider these
trends:
XAVIER is 8-0 ATS
in road games versus
good ball
handling teams
this season and
10-2 ATS versus
good
teams. Xavier is
14-4 ATS after
a game where they
covered the spread
this season and
9-1 ATS after
successfully covering
the spread in 3
or more
consecutive games
this season. The
Longhorns, on the
other hand, are
1-7 ATS after covering
2 of their last
3 against the spread
this season. The
wrong team may
be
getting points
here. Xavier has
been one of the
best
teams in the country
for a better part
of a month, and
is still getting
little respect
from anyone. Look
for Xavier to get
the W and move
on in this contest.
RESULT:
Xavier 79, Texas 71 - WIN!
